The HJC RPHA 12 is a sports full-face motorcycle helmet built to the ECE 22.06 standard. This collection includes PIM EVO composite-shell helmets, lighter-looking carbon-fibre versions, graphic and solid colourways, plus HJ-42 replacement visors and DKS495 Pinlock inserts.
Begin with fit and intended use, then choose shell construction and finish. If you are shopping for a replacement vision part, match the HJ-42 visor code or DKS495 insert code rather than relying on appearance alone.
The standard RPHA 12 uses HJC's PIM EVO construction, which combines reinforcement materials including carbon-aramid, carbon and glass fibre. The RPHA 12 Carbon uses a carbon-fibre shell. Both versions are full-face helmets approved to ECE 22.06, so the decision is about construction, finish, fit and budget rather than a different helmet category.
Choose from plain colours and an extensive graphic range, including licensed designs. The underlying helmet format remains the same, but contents can vary between individual editions.
The exposed carbon-fibre construction gives this version its distinct appearance. Compare the listed weight, supplied accessories and available sizing on the exact product page before choosing.
HJC developed the RPHA 12 shell, rear spoiler and curved HJ-42 shield as an integrated aerodynamic package. The design is intended to manage lift, drag and wind noise while improving stability at speed. Actual noise still depends on motorcycle screen height, riding position, fit and hearing protection.
The ventilation layout brings air through the chin and crown and allows warm air to leave through rear exhausts. Inside, the crown liner and cheek pads are removable for cleaning. HJC also specifies interchangeable cheek pads across the available size range and emergency-release cheek-pad tabs.
A helmet should never be selected on ventilation or graphics alone. Secure, even fit is essential for the retention system, eye port and ventilation channels to sit in their intended positions.
Measure around the widest part of the head and use the size chart for the exact RPHA 12 listing as a starting point. New cheek pads can feel firm, but the crown should not create a sharp hotspot at the forehead, temples or rear of the head.
See our motorcycle helmet sizing guide for measuring advice. The Moto Central head-shape video also explains why two helmets with the same stated circumference can feel different.
Official HJC fitment assigns the HJ-42 outer visor to the RPHA 12 and RPHA 12 Carbon. Current choices in this collection include clear, smoke and iridium finishes. Select the correct light transmission for the conditions and check current UK road requirements before using a tinted visor.
For fog reduction, Pinlock identifies DKS495 as the model-specific Pinlock 120XLT MaxVision insert for a prepared HJ-42 visor. The insert fits inside the outer shield and does not replace a scratched, cracked or damaged visor.
The RPHA 12's full-face coverage and sports-led aerodynamics suit riders who want a road helmet with a focused feel. Track-day and competition organisers can impose additional approval, fastening, visor or date requirements, so check the rules for the event rather than relying only on the ECE label.
For road riding, combine the helmet with suitable ear protection and adjust vents while stationary until their operation is familiar. Never attach an accessory where it obstructs a vent, weakens the shell or interferes with visor movement.
Use mild soap, lukewarm water and a soft cloth on the shell and visor. Avoid fuel, solvents, abrasive cleaners and household glass products. Remove washable interior parts in accordance with HJC's instructions, let them air-dry fully and refit every press stud securely.
Before riding, inspect the shell, strap, buckle, EPS, visor pivots and locking action. A helmet that has received a significant impact should be assessed for replacement even if damage is not obvious from the outside.
Moto Central brings together the complete helmets and their HJ-42 and DKS495 vision parts, helping riders compare current colours, sizes and compatible replacements in one model collection. Our team can assist with sizing in the showroom and help identify the part code needed for an existing helmet.

Yes. HJC specifies ECE 22.06 approval for both the PIM EVO and Carbon versions. Check the approval label on the physical helmet before use.
The standard model uses HJC's PIM EVO composite construction, while the Carbon version uses a carbon-fibre shell. Both share the RPHA 12 full-face format and HJ-42 visor family.
Choose an HJ-42 outer visor for the RPHA 12 or RPHA 12 Carbon.
Choose the DKS495 Pinlock 120XLT MaxVision insert for a compatible, Pinlock-prepared HJ-42 visor.
Do not assume so. Check the contents stated on the exact product page, particularly for graphics, replicas and carbon variants.
