The HJC i31 is an ECE 22.06 open-face motorcycle helmet with a full-length HJ-43 outer visor, an adjustable HJ-V12 internal sun shield and a removable, washable interior. Moto Central's current collection includes three solid colours across sizes XS to 2XL.
It is designed for riders who want the airflow and broad outlook of an open-face helmet with more weather coverage than a short visor or goggles provide. The long face shield helps manage wind and road debris, but the chin and lower face remain less enclosed than they would be in a full-face helmet.
The i31 meets the current ECE 22.06 motorcycle helmet standard in its open-face configuration.
The long clear shield is anti-scratch coated, prepared for an anti-fog insert and uses an improved locking system.
The dark internal shield is adjustable, with a mechanism that can extend its position by 5 mm for additional coverage.
Moisture-wicking crown and cheek pads can be removed for cleaning, and glasses grooves assist eyewear users.
The i31 suits urban, commuter and relaxed touring use where an open-face helmet is preferred but a substantial outer visor is useful. The HJ-43 reaches down over the face to provide more wind and weather coverage than a small peak or short bubble visor, while the built-in sun shield can be lowered as light changes.
Open-face design is the central buying decision. The i31 does not have a protective chin bar, so the lower face is more exposed in an impact than it would be inside a full-face helmet. Riders who prioritise maximum facial coverage should compare a full-face or closed flip-front model before choosing on ventilation or convenience.
HJC builds the i31 using its Advanced Polycarbonate Composite shell. The shape has been developed with an extended cheek area and updated aerodynamics, while the Advanced Channeling Ventilation System moves air through the helmet from the upper intakes towards the exhaust area.
Actual airflow and noise depend on riding speed, motorcycle screen, head position and fit. The extended cheek area is designed to create a closer lower edge and help reduce turbulence, but an open-face helmet will still expose the rider to more ambient sound and airflow than many closed designs. Hearing protection remains worth considering on longer or faster journeys.
The clear HJ-43 outer visor provides 99% UV protection according to HJC and has an anti-scratch coating. Its updated locking arrangement is intended to improve sealing and stability when closed. Before each ride, check that the shield is fully engaged at both pivots and closes evenly against the eye-port seal.
The visor is prepared for a compatible anti-fog insert. Pinlock-ready does not always mean the insert is included, so check the supplied contents on the exact product page. If adding one later, match the insert to the HJ-43 visor reference rather than choosing only by helmet brand.
Clean the outer visor with water, mild soap and a soft cloth. Avoid solvents and abrasive materials, and replace the shield if scratches or haze begin to interfere with the normal field of view.
The HJ-V12 internal sun shield is dark smoke and has anti-scratch and anti-fog coatings. HJC's adjustable mechanism allows its lowered position to extend by 5 mm, helping the rider tune the coverage around the nose and lower edge.
Try the mechanism while wearing spectacles and confirm that the sun shield does not touch the nose, eyelashes or frames. It is a convenience for bright conditions rather than a replacement for a legal clear outer visor when riding in darkness or poor visibility.
HJC lists the solid i31 from XS to 2XL. Measure around the widest part of the head just above the eyebrows and ears, then compare the result with the chart on the exact product page and our motorcycle helmet sizing guide.
A new helmet should feel evenly firm around the crown and cheeks without a sharp pressure point. Secure the micro buckle, then gently rotate and roll the helmet. The lining should move the skin rather than sliding freely around the head, and the helmet should resist being pulled forwards off.
Keep the i31 on for several minutes during fitting. Check the temple area, the lower cheek extension, glasses grooves and visor clearance. A size label cannot account for head shape, so a balanced fit matters more than choosing a familiar size from another brand or model.
The crown pad and cheek pads are removable and washable. Take them out using HJC's fastening sequence, wash gently and let them dry naturally before refitting. Do not use direct heat, strong detergent or solvent cleaners around the lining, shell or protective EPS.
HJC lists top vents, HJ-V12 sun shields, cheek pads and headliners among the replacement components for the i31. Match every spare to the exact helmet model and size, as visually similar pieces from the i30 or another HJC open-face helmet may not fit correctly.
Moto Central carries the i31 in several solid colours and a full spread of sizes, allowing riders to compare the finish while concentrating on fit. Our team can help assess crown pressure, retention, visor clearance and the position of the adjustable sun shield.
