HJC i80

The HJC i80 is an ECE 22.06 modular adventure-touring motorcycle helmet with a liftable chin bar, removable peak, Pinlock-ready HJ-44 outer visor and HJ-V12 internal sun shield. Moto Central's collection includes solid, Imes, Roki and Velly helmets alongside the correct HJ-44 visors and DKS579 Pinlock insert.

The design combines the road visibility of a clear outer visor with an adventure-style peak and the convenience of a modular front. It is intended for riders who move between everyday roads, touring routes and changing conditions, while its removable parts allow the helmet's configuration and appearance to be adapted.

What makes the HJC i80 different?

Fit and sizing

Measure around the widest part of the head, just above the eyebrows and around the back, then compare that figure with the size information on the product page. HJC's published chart covers XS to 2XL, although availability varies between solid colours and graphics.

The helmet should feel evenly firm at the crown and cheeks with no concentrated pressure point. Hold the shell and move it gently: the skin should move with the liner rather than the helmet turning freely around the head. Keep it on indoors for several minutes to check the forehead, temples and back of the head.

Try the chin mechanism, sun shield and main visor while the helmet is worn. If you use glasses, check the spectacle grooves and confirm the arms sit naturally without creating pressure. Padding settles slightly with use, so a new helmet that already moves too easily is unlikely to become more secure.

Using the modular chin bar

A liftable front can make stops, conversations and putting on glasses more convenient. It does not remove the need to secure the helmet correctly before riding, and the mechanism should never be forced or operated when obstructed by dirt.

Close the chin bar firmly and check that both sides latch. Inspect the hinge areas regularly and keep them free from grit. If the bar does not close symmetrically, if a latch feels incomplete or if the mechanism is damaged, stop using the helmet until it has been checked.

Approval for riding with a modular helmet open depends on its certified modes and markings, not simply on whether the chin bar can be raised. Consult the label and handbook for the specific helmet supplied.

Peak on or off?

The peak is useful when the sun is high or when riding beneath trees and through broken light. Its effect varies with head angle, screen height, speed and wind direction, and any peak can introduce extra wind loading compared with a smooth road helmet.

HJC states that the i80 peak was wind-tunnel tested and refined with aerodynamic analysis. Even so, riders should expect a different feel from a non-peaked touring helmet. If most journeys are sustained motorway miles, trying the helmet with and without the peak can help identify the preferred setup.

Follow the official removal and refitting sequence, keep every fixing together and do not overtighten plastic components. Before riding, check that the peak is secure and does not interfere with the visor or chin-bar movement.

HJ-44 outer visor and DKS579 Pinlock

The i80 uses the HJ-44 outer visor. HJC specifies Pinlock preparation, anti-scratch treatment and 99% UV protection. Moto Central currently lists clear and dark smoke replacements, so identify the HJ-44 code before ordering rather than choosing by shell shape.

The correct anti-fog insert is DKS579. Pinlock lists this as a Pinlock 70 MaxVision lens made for the HJ-44 and i80. Other HJC inserts can have different curves, pin spacing and seal positions even when their packaging looks similar.

HJC lists the DKS579 lens among the standard box contents, but check the exact Moto Central product page in case the supplied package differs. The outer visor and insert remain separate parts: a scratched HJ-44 may need replacement even when the DKS579 is still usable.

Install the lens only on a clean, dry visor and follow Pinlock's fitting and tension guidance. Wash it gently with lukewarm water and a soft cloth. If condensation appears between the insert and visor, check the silicone seal and pin adjustment before replacing either part.

Clear, dark smoke and the sun shield

A clear HJ-44 is the practical option for mixed weather, poor light and journeys that may continue after sunset. The internal HJ-V12 can then be lowered when bright conditions require additional shading.

A dark smoke outer visor reduces incoming light more substantially and is intended for suitable daylight. It should not be treated as an all-conditions visor. Check its markings and current UK requirements, and carry the clear HJ-44 if a ride may continue into darkness.

Keep the HJ-V12 clean and test that it retracts fully. The internal shield is not a structural replacement for the outer visor and does not accept the DKS579 insert.

Ventilation and washable interior

HJC's Advanced Channeling Ventilation System uses upper vents and two-step lower controls to move air through the helmet. Actual flow depends on road speed, weather, windscreen position and how the peak alters the local airflow.

The moisture-managing crown liner and 3D-contoured cheek pads are removable and washable. Use mild cleaning products, rinse thoroughly and allow each part to dry naturally away from direct heat. Refit every fastener and confirm the cheek pads are secure before riding.

The included chin curtain can reduce incoming air around the lower opening. It may improve comfort in cool conditions, while removing it can increase airflow in warmer weather. Neither option replaces correct visor ventilation and anti-fog preparation.

Helmets and accessories in this collection

The collection is mainly complete i80 helmets, including Pearl White, Semi Flat Black and Imes, Roki and Velly graphics. It also contains the HJ-44 clear and dark smoke outer visors plus a DKS579 clear Pinlock insert.

Complete helmets have size choices and include the shell, chin bar, peak and vision components stated on the product page. The accessory products do not have helmet sizes. Read the full title and confirm HJ-44 or DKS579 before purchase if you are maintaining an existing helmet.

Care and inspection

Clean the shell and visor with water, mild soap and a soft cloth. Soften insects before wiping and keep solvents, fuel and household glass cleaner away from the plastics and coatings. Store the helmet dry, supported and away from high heat.

Inspect the shell, strap, chin-bar latches, hinges, peak fixings and visor pivots regularly. Replace a visor that is cracked, deeply scratched or insecure. After an impact, follow HJC's inspection and replacement guidance even if the outer damage looks small.

Why buy the HJC i80 range from Moto Central?

Moto Central brings the current i80 colours and graphics together with the correct visor and Pinlock references. This helps riders compare helmet options, replace an HJ-44 and find DKS579 without confusing visually similar parts from another HJC model.

Our team can help with helmet sizing, modular features and part-code checks before purchase. Browse the wider HJC range, compare adventure helmets and flip-up helmets, or find more helmet spares and accessories.
