The HJC i91 is an ECE 22.06 P/J-approved flip-up motorcycle helmet developed for commuting, touring and everyday road use. Its Advanced Polycarbonate Composite shell, HJ-33 Pinlock-ready outer visor, adjustable HJ-V12 sun shield and removable interior combine practical modular access with equipment suited to longer journeys.
Moto Central's collection includes solid colours and Arven, Carst, Dusk and Felio graphics, plus compatible HJ-33 visors and DKS267 Pinlock inserts. Read each product title carefully because complete helmets and model-specific accessories appear together on this page.
The i91 is approved for the relevant open and closed configurations. Follow its approval label and instructions whenever riding with the chin bar raised.
The polycarbonate chin bar opens for easier access at stops and closes to restore full-face coverage for the road.
The main shield is prepared for the model-specific Pinlock 70 MaxVision insert, helping manage condensation in cold or wet conditions.
An internal sun shield, glasses grooves, washable padding and SMART HJC preparation support regular commuting and longer-distance use.
Measure around the widest part of the head, above the eyebrows and around the rear, then compare that figure with the size chart on the exact product page. HJC publishes i91 sizing from XS upwards, with some solid versions extending to 3XL. The sizes offered can differ between colours and graphics.
A correctly sized i91 should feel firm and even around the crown, cheeks and back of the head. It should not rotate independently when the shell is moved, yet it should not create a sharp or localised pressure point. Wear it indoors for several minutes before making a decision because head shape matters alongside circumference.
Operate the visor, sun shield and chin bar while wearing the helmet. If you use prescription glasses, confirm that the arms follow the intended grooves without pressing against the temples. New padding settles with use, so do not select a loose fit in expectation that it will improve.
The opening front makes it easier to put the helmet on, speak during a stop or adjust glasses. Close it firmly before riding in the full-face configuration and confirm that both sides have latched. The mechanism should move cleanly without requiring force.
P/J approval means the helmet has approved configurations for open-face and full-face use, but the chin bar still needs to be positioned and secured exactly as HJC instructs. Check the helmet markings and handbook rather than assuming that any partially raised position is permitted.
Keep the hinges and latches clear of grit. Stop using the helmet if the chin bar closes unevenly, a latch fails to engage or the mechanism shows impact damage. Do not lubricate or dismantle the system unless the HJC instructions specifically direct it.
The i91 uses the HJ-33 outer visor. HJC specifies Pinlock preparation, 99% UV protection and an anti-scratch coating. Moto Central lists clear, dark smoke and several iridium finishes, while the same visor reference is also used by the HJC i90.
DKS267 is the matching Pinlock 70 MaxVision insert. Pinlock's official fitment information lists the HJ-33 and both the i90 and i91. Choose by this part code because another insert can have a different curve, pin spacing or silicone-seal position.
HJC lists a Pinlock lens with the i91, but confirm the contents of the exact Moto Central listing before buying another. The HJ-33 and DKS267 remain separate components: the rigid outer visor provides the external shield, while the flexible insert seals against its inside surface.
Install the insert only on a clean, dry HJ-33 and follow Pinlock's guidance for pin tension and seal contact. Clean it with lukewarm water and a soft cloth, allow it to dry naturally and keep household glass cleaner or solvents away from the lens.
A clear HJ-33 with a clear DKS267 is the most adaptable combination for mixed weather and journeys that may continue after sunset. The dark smoke and iridium outer visors reduce incoming light and are intended for suitable bright conditions.
DKS267 inserts are available here in clear, dark smoke and yellow. The yellow lens changes contrast and colour perception in dull conditions, while a dark smoke insert further reduces available light. Consider the combined effect of both layers rather than assessing each tint in isolation.
Inspect the approval markings and follow current UK visor requirements. Carry a clear outer visor if a daytime journey could extend into darkness, and replace any shield that is cracked, deeply scratched, hazy or insecure at either pivot.
HJC fits the i91 with an adjustable HJ-V12 sun shield. It deploys behind the main visor to reduce glare and can be repositioned for the rider's preferred coverage.
The sun shield is not the same part as the HJ-33 and does not accept a DKS267 insert. It should retract fully without contacting glasses or the rider's nose. Keep both sides clean and avoid forcing the mechanism if movement becomes obstructed.
The moisture-managing crown lining and cheek pads are removable for cleaning. HJC also states that i91 cheek pads are interchangeable across helmet sizes, although any replacement must still be the correct i91 component and thickness for the intended fit.
Wash removable fabric parts with mild products, rinse thoroughly and let them dry naturally away from radiators or direct heat. Refit all poppers and tabs carefully, then check that the padding does not obstruct the chin-bar latches or retention strap.
Glasses grooves provide space for spectacle arms, but frame shape and helmet fit still affect comfort. Test your normal eyewear with the helmet and confirm it remains stable when the chin bar and HJ-V12 are operated.
The i91 is prepared for the second-generation SMART HJC 11B, 21B and 50B Bluetooth systems, sold separately. This preparation provides the intended mounting and speaker areas, but an intercom is not included unless the individual product listing explicitly states otherwise.
Check the exact communication unit and included fittings before purchase. Place speakers in the designated recesses and route wiring so it does not create pressure points, interfere with the liner or affect the operation of the chin bar.
The collection contains complete i91 helmets in current solids and graphics, together with HJ-33 outer visors and DKS267 inserts. Helmet products have size options, while the visor and Pinlock listings generally do not.
One accessory can appear visually similar to another, so use the title and code as the deciding factors. For the i91, the correct outer visor is HJ-33 and the matching anti-fog insert is DKS267. Do not select an insert described for HJ-S2 or HJ-17R visors simply because it appears near i91 products.
Use water, mild soap and a soft cloth on the shell and outer visor. Rinse grit away first and soften insects before wiping. Mirrored visor finishes need particularly gentle handling because abrasive cleaning can damage the coating.
Inspect the shell, strap, buckle, hinges, latches and visor pivots regularly. Store the helmet dry and supported, away from fuel, solvents and high heat. Follow HJC's guidance after an impact even when damage is not immediately visible.
Moto Central groups current i91 colours and graphics with the correct HJ-33 and DKS267 accessories. Riders can compare sizes and finishes, identify replacement parts by code and ask our team for help with fit or compatibility before ordering.

HJC specifies P/J dual approval. Use the chin bar only in the approved positions described on the helmet and in its instructions.
The i91 uses the HJ-33 outer visor, which is also listed for the HJC i90.
The correct insert is DKS267 Pinlock 70 MaxVision. Check whether one is already included with the chosen helmet.
Yes. It uses an adjustable HJ-V12 sun shield behind the main visor.
The crown liner and cheek pads are removable and washable. Allow them to dry naturally before refitting.
