Find motorcycle body armour to complement your riding clothing, from replacement inserts and separate back protectors to armoured shirts, vests and airbag systems. Start with the areas you want to cover and the kit you already wear. Then compare the protection rating, size and fitting arrangement so the equipment works together comfortably.

Choose the right armour format
Inserts for jackets and trousers
Replacement armour fits into pockets in a compatible garment. Check the required shape, dimensions and body position before choosing. A back protector that fits one jacket is not automatically right for another, even when the jackets share a labelled size.
Separate protectors
Strapped protectors are worn independently of a garment pocket. Check their coverage, adjustment and position with your riding clothes on. Examples such as Oxford's Dynamic strapped back protector illustrate a different fitting arrangement from a loose jacket insert.
Armoured shirts and vests
These hold several protectors in one wearable layer. Compare armoured vests and protective shirts by the areas covered and how they are intended to be worn. Read the garment specification as well as the individual armour ratings.
Airbag systems
An airbag adds a system with its own sizing, compatibility and operating requirements. Compare the intended riding use, deployment clearance, activation and servicing arrangements. Use the exact manufacturer's instructions when combining it with a jacket or suit.
What do Level 1 and Level 2 mean?
EN 1621 assesses motorcycle impact protectors. Level 1 and Level 2 describe performance within the relevant test, with Level 2 allowing less transmitted force. Limb, back and chest protectors have different test requirements, so compare like-for-like products rather than treating every rating as identical.
Check the body area, level, coverage and fit together. A higher-rated protector that cannot sit correctly in your garment is not a suitable replacement. Avoid trimming or altering armour unless the manufacturer specifically permits it.
Impact protection and garment protection are separate
Armour ratings describe the protectors; they do not establish the abrasion performance of the clothing around them. Check the finished garment's certification separately. An armoured shirt may be a protective riding garment or primarily a carrier for impact protectors, depending on its construction and approval.
This matters when building a casual-looking outfit. Adding protectors to an ordinary garment does not automatically give that garment the specification of certified riding clothing. Compare motorcycle clothing and protective base-layer options as part of the complete setup.
Match the size to the garment and your body
Check the manufacturer's sizing and fitment guide, including any length or coverage options. Put on the complete outfit, bend your elbows and knees, and confirm that the protectors remain over the intended areas. Use the garment's adjustment pockets where provided.
For separate chest, knee, elbow or hip protection, check how each part sits alongside the others. Extra equipment should not prevent you fastening your jacket, moving comfortably or operating the bike.
Choose protection for the riding you do
Road, track and off-road equipment can use different layouts and wearing arrangements. Explore off-road body armour for motocross-focused options, and follow any event-specific rules. For electronic systems, check operating modes and the supported garment combination before purchase.
Inspect armour and its pockets as part of your regular kit checks. Follow the maker's advice after an impact, and use its cleaning and replacement guidance rather than assuming every material should be treated alike.
