Icon Helmets

Icon helmets cover several distinct road-riding formats, from long-oval Airflite full-face helmets and intermediate-oval Airform models to Ultraflite, Airframe Pro, Domain and the Threshold modular. The collection also contains remaining graphics from earlier approval generations, so the exact model and product specification matter.

Start with fit, helmet type and approval, then compare shell material, visor system, internal sun shield and ventilation. MIPS appears on selected Icon helmets and is not a universal brand feature. Likewise, ECE 22.06 applies to current models but should not be assumed for every older helmet in the range.

Icon helmet families at a glance

• Airflite: polycarbonate full-face helmet with a long-oval headform, Fliteshield or Forceshield, internal Dropshield and distinctive extended eye-port design.
• Airform: polycarbonate full-face helmet with an intermediate-oval fit, Optics shield and internal Dropshield.
• Ultraflite: ECE 22.06 full-face range in standard composite-fibreglass and Carbon constructions, with MIPS, Ultrashield and Dropshield Ultra.
• Airframe Pro: sport-focused full-face family with a composite shell, intermediate-oval fit and Optics or Tracshield vision system depending on the exact model and generation.
• Domain: ECE 22.06 full-face helmet with a round headform, FRP shell and Domain-specific shield.
• Threshold: ECE 22.06 modular helmet with a flip-up chin bar, composite-fibreglass shell, Threshold Shield and internal Dropshield.

Head shape and sizing

Measure around the widest part of your head, just above the eyebrows and ears, then use the size chart for the exact model. The helmet should feel evenly firm without a concentrated pressure point. Cheek pads should hold the cheeks securely, and the helmet should move the scalp rather than sliding independently when rotated.

Airflite is intended for a longer, narrower headform. Current Airform, Ultraflite, Airframe Pro and Threshold models use intermediate-oval descriptions, while Domain is designed around a rounder shape. Read Moto Central's motorcycle helmet sizing guide before choosing and visit the showroom when you need direct fit comparison.

ECE 22.05 and ECE 22.06

Current Icon Airflite, Airform, Ultraflite, Airframe Pro, Domain and Threshold information identifies ECE 22.06 products. This collection can also contain remaining earlier helmets, so check the individual product title, specification and approval label. Do not infer the standard from the graphic or approximate purchase date.

The approval generation also affects accessories. Icon publishes separate ECE 22.05 and ECE 22.06 shield part numbers for some families, including Airflite and Optics systems. Match the helmet generation when ordering a replacement visor.

Shells, MIPS and helmet type

Icon uses different shell materials across the range. Airflite and Airform use injection-moulded polycarbonate, while current Ultraflite and Threshold models use composite-fibreglass shells. Ultraflite Carbon uses a carbon-composite shell. Airframe Pro and Domain use their own composite FRP constructions.

MIPS is fitted to Ultraflite and selected Airflite and Airform graphics. Check the full product name rather than assuming it is included. Threshold is the modular option in this collection; its moving chin bar and model-specific mechanism make it materially different from the full-face families.

Visors, internal sun shields and Pinlock

Each model family has a defined vision system. Airflite uses Fliteshield or Forceshield products, Airform and Airframe Pro use Optics-family shields, Ultraflite uses Ultrashield, Domain uses Domain Shield and Threshold uses Threshold Shield. Internal Dropshields also vary by family.

Pinlock readiness is visor-specific. A helmet or visor described as Pinlock-ready has the relevant mounting pins, but an insert is only included when the product listing says so. Browse Icon visors and Icon helmet spare parts for model-specific replacements.

Practical checks before riding

• Fasten the retention system and confirm the helmet cannot roll off forwards.
• Check for even pressure after wearing the helmet indoors for several minutes.
• Operate the visor, vents, internal sun shield and modular chin bar where fitted.
• Confirm the visor locks and seals evenly on both sides.
• Use an approved clear visor in darkness and unsuitable low-light conditions.
• Replace a helmet after a significant impact in accordance with manufacturer guidance.
