The Dainese Smart Jacket D-air is a men's road-motorcycle airbag vest designed to add electronically controlled chest and back protection to an existing riding outfit. This Black 201D20039-001 version can be worn over or under a motorcycle jacket and operates without a tether or connection to the bike.
D-air protection for road riding
Derived from Dainese's D-air racing research, the integrated system monitors riding conditions 1,000 times per second and deploys the Shield airbag when its algorithm recognises a covered accident scenario. Dainese lists protection for collisions, slides with or without rolling, high-side falls and stationary rear-end impacts under the specified operating conditions.

The Smart Jacket becomes operational after the motorcycle exceeds 10 km/h. On a conventional motorcycle, engine vibration can keep the system operational while stationary so it can recognise a rear impact. On an electric motorcycle, Dainese states that the system becomes operational once 10 km/h has been exceeded.

The textile is water-repellent and the sensors are waterproof, but the complete garment is not waterproof. If the vest is worn as the outer layer in rain, protect it with a suitable waterproof overgarment.
Activation, charging and aftercare
The D-air system must be registered and configured before first use by following the activation instructions supplied for the garment. Always check the status LED before riding. The vest is switched off by unfastening its closure buttons, and the LED should be checked to confirm shutdown.
A full charge takes approximately four hours. A USB-C charging cable is supplied. Dainese recommends keeping the system software updated and arranging the first routine inspection after three years.
The Smart Jacket airbag requires authorised replacement and inspection after every deployment. Do not continue using a deployed garment until it has been serviced by Dainese or an authorised D-air service centre.
Clean the vest with a soft damp cloth only. Do not machine wash, immerse it in water or use aggressive cleaning products.
How to choose the correct size
This listing uses Dainese's men's Smart Jacket sizing from XS to XXL. Choose the size for the way you intend to wear it:
- Under a riding jacket: measure your chest over the base layers normally worn for riding. Dainese requires approximately 5 cm of free space between the front and back of the Smart Jacket and the surrounding clothing so the airbag can deploy.
- Over a riding jacket: measure around the fullest part of your chest while wearing the complete armoured jacket underneath.
Do not size down to create a tight fit. If you change riding jackets or layer thickness, confirm that the required deployment space remains available.
