The Dainese Smart Jacket LS is a ventilated textile motorcycle jacket with the Dainese D-air Road airbag system integrated across the chest and back. This is the original long-sleeve 201D20028-001 model in Black, designed as a complete warm-weather riding jacket with no tether, motorcycle connection or subscription.
D-air Road airbag protection
The electronic control unit works autonomously. Seven sensors monitor the rider's movement 1,000 times per second so the algorithm can recognise selected road-riding accident dynamics and deploy the patented D-air Shield when required.

The D-air algorithm can respond to impacts with vehicles or objects, slides with or without rolling, high-sides and rear impacts while a conventional motorcycle is stationary. The system becomes operational after exceeding 10 km/h. On a conventional motorcycle it can remain active at a standstill by recognising engine vibration. On an electric motorcycle, this Smart Jacket generation becomes operational only after the motorcycle exceeds 10 km/h.
The Smart Jacket LS is intended for motorcycle and scooter use on the road. It is not designed for circuit riding or off-road use involving jumps, strong vibrations or repeated heavy jolts.
Ventilated textile construction
The abrasion-resistant, tear-resistant textile shell is ventilated and breathable for warmer road riding. Soft, perforated Pro-Armor at the shoulders and elbows follows the body's movement while providing Level 2 Type B coverage.

The D-air sensors are protected against water, but the ventilated outer garment is not waterproof. Use a suitable rain jacket over it when required and make sure the outer layer leaves enough room for the airbag to deploy. Dainese specifies at least 5 cm of circumference clearance around the airbag area.
Battery, registration and care
Before first use, the jacket must be registered and activated with Dainese D-air software on a compatible Windows or Mac computer. The battery must be fully charged to unlock the system. A full charge takes approximately four hours and provides more than 26 hours of active use. A USB-C charging cable is supplied.
The LED interface shows system and battery status. For routine cleaning, use a damp cloth. Do not machine wash, immerse the jacket in water or use harsh detergents. Dainese recommends a D-air system inspection after the first three years from purchase, and firmware notifications are issued after registration.
What happens after an airbag deployment?
This original Smart Jacket LS does not use the newer Smart Air triple-activation system or a user-replaceable gas generator. After every deployment, the airbag and generator must be replaced and the jacket inspected by Dainese or an authorised D-air centre before it is used again. Dainese lists model 201D20028 for its official D-air bag replacement service.

Questions and answers
Is this the current Smart Air vest?
No. This is the earlier Smart Jacket LS long-sleeve motorcycle jacket, model 201D20028. It uses a single-deployment D-air bag that requires authorised replacement after activation.
Does it need a subscription or motorcycle connection?
No. Registration and first activation are required, but there is no subscription, tether or bike-mounted trigger.
Is it waterproof?
No. The jacket is ventilated and has no waterproof membrane. The electronic sensors are protected, but the complete garment needs a correctly fitting rain layer in wet weather.
Can it be used on a race circuit?
No. Its D-air algorithm is designed for road use. A dedicated D-air Racing garment is required for circuit riding.
Is separate shoulder and elbow armour supplied?
Yes. Removable EN 1621-1 Level 2 Type B Pro-Armor protectors are fitted at the shoulders and elbows.
