The Dainese Smart Jacket LS Sport is a ventilated motorcycle jacket with Dainese D-air Road airbag protection integrated across the chest and back. This is the original long-sleeve Smart Jacket LS Sport, item 201D20040-628, in the official Black / Fluo Red colourway. It combines an abrasion-resistant summer mesh jacket with Level 2 shoulder and elbow armour, giving road riders a complete outer jacket rather than a separate airbag vest.

Integrated D-air Road protection

The D-air electronic control unit works independently, without a tether or connection to the motorcycle. Seven sensors monitor the rider's movement 1,000 times per second and the algorithm can recognise road-riding accident dynamics including impacts with vehicles or objects, slides with or without rolling, high-sides and rear impacts while the motorcycle is stationary.

The system becomes operational after the motorcycle exceeds 10 km/h. On a conventional motorcycle it can then remain active while stationary by recognising engine vibration, allowing the algorithm to respond to a rear-end collision at traffic lights, junctions or in a queue. The jacket is intended for motorcycle and scooter use on the road. It is not designed for circuit riding or off-road use involving jumps, strong vibrations or repeated heavy jolts.

Ventilated sport-jacket construction

Large mesh panels across the body and inner arms promote airflow in warm conditions. Dainese uses stretch, abrasion-resistant Mugello fabric on higher-stress areas such as the outer arms, helping the jacket move naturally in a sport-riding position. A 3D Bubble lining supports internal airflow and comfort.

Battery, registration and care

Before its first use, the jacket must be registered and activated using Dainese D-air software on a compatible Windows or Mac computer. The battery must be fully charged to unlock the system. A full charge takes approximately four hours and provides more than 26 hours of active use. A USB-C charging cable is supplied.

The D-air electronics meet IP54 requirements for dust and splash resistance, but the ventilated textile garment is not waterproof. Use a suitable rain jacket over it in wet weather, leaving enough room for the airbag to deploy. If any garment is worn over the Smart Jacket LS Sport, Dainese requires at least 5 cm of circumference clearance around the airbag area.

For routine cleaning, use a damp cloth. Do not machine wash, immerse the jacket in water or use harsh detergents. Dainese recommends a D-air system inspection after the first three years from purchase. Firmware notifications are issued after product registration.

What happens after an airbag deployment?

This original Smart Jacket LS Sport does not use the newer Smart Air triple-activation system or a user-replaceable gas generator. After every deployment, the D-air bag must be replaced and the jacket checked by Dainese or an authorised D-air centre before it is used again. Dainese currently lists Smart Jacket LS Sport model 201D20040 as eligible for its official D-air bag replacement service.

The Shopify options use UK chest sizes. Match the selected UK option to the corresponding Dainese EU size below. Measurements are body measurements in centimetres. Dainese recommends choosing primarily from the chest measurement, then checking height, sleeve, neck and waist.

Questions and answers

Is this the current Smart Air vest?

No. This is the earlier Smart Jacket LS Sport long-sleeve mesh jacket, model 201D20040. It uses a single-deployment D-air bag that requires authorised replacement after activation.

Is it waterproof?

No. The jacket is designed for ventilation and does not contain a waterproof membrane. Protect it with a correctly fitting rain layer when required.

Can it be used on a race circuit?

No. Its D-air algorithm is designed for road use. Choose a dedicated D-air Racing garment for circuit riding.

Can another jacket be worn over it?

Yes, provided the outer garment leaves at least 5 cm of circumference clearance around the airbag area and does not restrict deployment. The LS Sport is designed primarily as a complete outer jacket.

Does it need to connect to the motorcycle?

No. The D-air control unit, sensors and GPS operate autonomously without a cable or bike-mounted trigger.
