Browse open-face motorcycle helmets, from compact retro styles to jet helmets with larger visors. Open-face designs vary in shell shape, visor coverage and accessory provision. Compare the fit, eye-protection arrangement and everyday features, while remembering that an open-face design leaves the chin exposed.

Find the open-face style that fits your routine
Retro and classic designs
DMD Retro Jet, Roeg Jett and Arai Freeway Classic models offer different interpretations of a traditional open-face shape. Look at the eye-protection arrangement before choosing by colour. If the helmet needs separate eyewear, include it in your fitting check and budget.
Jet helmets with a larger visor
Models such as the Shoei J-Cruise 3 and HJC i31 provide alternatives to the simplest retro format. Compare the visor's coverage and operation, any internal sun visor, and the fastening. A larger shield can change the riding experience, but it does not add a protective chin bar.
A compact visor arrangement
The Shoei J.O2 uses its own CJ-4 visor. When comparing it with other open-face designs, check how the visor sits relative to your face and glasses. Keep the full model name when buying replacements; J.O2 parts should not be selected just because they carry the Shoei name.
A face cover or removable section
Some open-face designs have additional face coverings. Read their approval and intended purpose rather than judging protection by appearance. Our convertible helmet collection explains the distinctions to consider.
Choose your eye protection with the helmet
Check whether the listing includes an outer visor, an internal sun visor, separate goggles or no eye protection at all. These arrangements are not interchangeable. Try your chosen eyewear with the helmet fastened, checking the frame, strap and clearance around the nose.
Replacement visor finish also matters. Shoei lists the clear CJ-4 for J.O2 as suitable for unrestricted use, while its dark-smoke version carries a daytime-only restriction. Check the markings on your own chosen visor for road-use suitability and light conditions; do not assume all finishes have the same approval.
How much coverage do you want?
An open-face helmet leaves the lower face and chin uncovered. Consider that alongside the style and sensation you prefer. If chin coverage is a priority, compare full-face helmets or an appropriately approved flip-front helmet used in its closed configuration.
For riding with a visor or goggles, check the applicable UK approval requirements. A helmet's own approval does not establish that every accessory you attach is suitable for road use.
Look beyond the size on the box
Use the manufacturer's measurements to choose a starting size, then assess the helmet on your head with the strap fastened. Check the crown, temples and rear of the head, as well as whether your glasses sit comfortably. Compare another shape if tightening the strap still leaves an unstable fit.
Before ordering accessories, identify the exact helmet and generation. Browse replacement visors and helmet spare parts using those details, and confirm any intercom mounting arrangement with the manufacturer.
