Soft armour motorcycle gloves use flexible protective elements around areas such as the knuckles or fingers. They can suit riders who prefer a less rigid feel than a hard-shell glove, but the label covers a wide mix of road, touring, cruiser, motocross and casual-looking designs. Construction, approval, weather protection and the exact type of armour all vary by product.
Soft Armour Motorcycle Gloves
This Moto Central collection includes short and long-cuff gloves in leather, textile and mixed constructions. Some are designed for warm-weather airflow, some add waterproof or thermal layers, and others focus on off-road flexibility. Check the individual listing rather than assuming every glove has the same protection or features.
What soft armour means
Soft armour is a useful catalogue description, not a single technical standard. The protector may be foam, rubber, viscoelastic material or a branded impact material such as D3O, depending on the glove. Some protectors are exposed while others sit beneath leather or textile panels.
Choosing gloves for your riding
Road and urban riding
Short-cuff gloves are convenient under or over many jacket sleeves. Compare palm reinforcement, wrist retention, cuff overlap and the amount of ventilation. Touchscreen fingertips and visor wipes are model-specific.
Touring and poor weather
Longer cuffs can provide more jacket overlap. If rain or cold matters, look for an explicitly stated waterproof membrane, insulation and suitable cuff arrangement. Flexible armour alone does not make a glove waterproof or warm.
Summer riding
Perforated leather, mesh panels and vented protectors can improve airflow. More ventilation normally means less weather isolation, so compare the complete construction rather than judging the glove by its knuckle panel.
Motocross and enduro
Off-road gloves often use light, flexible materials for lever feel and movement. Protection, road approval and abrasion resistance differ between models, so confirm that a glove is suitable for where you intend to ride.
Fit comes before features
A motorcycle glove should feel secure without restricting your fingers or creating pressure from the protector. Check that your fingertips reach the ends without excess material, the palm does not bunch around the grip and the knuckle protection remains centred when you make a fist. The wrist closure should resist the glove pulling off while still allowing comfortable movement.
Measure your hand as directed by the manufacturer and use the size guide on the product page. Sizing can differ between brands and even between models. Try the glove in a riding position where possible, because a fit that feels correct with a flat hand may change around a handlebar.
Compare the whole glove
Alongside the armour type, consider the palm and outer construction, seams, wrist retention, cuff length and the conditions for which the glove was designed. Waterproof membranes, thermal liners, heated elements, hard palm sliders, touchscreen panels and reflective details appear only on selected products.
For a wider comparison, browse all motorcycle gloves, look at hard armour motorcycle gloves, or explore heated motorcycle gear. Product pages provide the model-specific materials, approval and care information needed for a fair choice.
Why shop this range at Moto Central?
Moto Central brings together gloves from established motorcycle brands in one catalogue, making it easier to compare cuff styles, materials, intended use and protection details. The range spans lightweight summer and off-road options through to waterproof, thermal and heated designs, subject to current availability. If a specification or size is unclear, contact the team before ordering.
Customer questions
Is soft armour less protective than hard armour?
Not necessarily. The feel of a protector does not establish the performance of the complete glove. Use the model’s test standard, marking and construction details rather than judging it only by rigidity.
Are all of these gloves waterproof?
No. Waterproofing must be stated for the individual product. Mesh, perforated and motocross gloves are commonly chosen for airflow or control rather than wet-weather isolation.
Can I wash motorcycle gloves in a machine?
Do not assume so. Leather, membranes, heated components and protective inserts can need different care. Follow the instructions supplied by the glove manufacturer.
