The original Icon Variant is a distinctive peaked street helmet, with its own shield, interior and mounting components. Keeping one comfortable and serviceable starts with identifying the helmet precisely. The later Variant Pro shares the family name, but its introduction brought changes to the fit, liner and shield system.

Identify the original Variant

Check the helmet label and existing component markings before choosing a part. Icon’s original Variant parts documentation separates comfort liners, cheek pads, peaks and side plates, with fitment tied to the helmet’s shell and size. A familiar graphic or a similar-looking pivot is not enough to establish compatibility. Keep the original model name available when asking for help.

Anti-fog inserts and outer shields

Pinlock lists the DKS194 Pinlock 70 clear insert for the Icon Variant. The insert is fitted inside a compatible prepared shield; it is not a replacement for the outer shield itself. Its moisture-absorbing surface and sealed air gap work together, so correct fit and an intact seal matter. Confirm the insert code and pin arrangement on your shield before ordering.

Shared fitment needs specific evidence

Some insert listings explicitly cover both Variant and Variant Pro, including Icon’s dark-smoke Pinlock 70 listing through Parts Europe. That shared application does not establish that peaks, outer shields or pivot kits interchange. Treat each component as a separate fitment decision. Choose tint for the light conditions and read the restrictions supplied with the exact lens.

Condition comes before refurbishment

A replacement comfort liner can address worn padding, but it does not renew the impact-absorbing structure of an ageing or damaged helmet. Check the shell, retention system, shield action and service history before investing in accessories. If the helmet has suffered an impact or no longer fits securely, seek replacement advice. The gallery illustrates inserts and a pivot kit, while the collection remains a guide to the original helmet and its upkeep.
