The Icon Threshold is a modular road helmet built around a handcrafted composite fibreglass shell. Its flip-up chin bar is intended to make brief stops and face-to-face conversations easier, while the intermediate-oval Sport Fit and ECE 22.06 approval place it firmly in Icon's current road range.

Every helmet in this collection shares the same core specification. The choice is between solid finishes and distinctive Icon graphics, so fit, size and intended use should come before colour. The Threshold also has its own quick-change outer shield and a dark-smoke internal Dropshield for changing light.

Shell, chin bar and certification

Icon describes the Threshold shell as a handcrafted composite fibreglass construction. The chin bar lifts using an easy-open button, giving the everyday convenience expected from a modular helmet. The European specification is ECE 22.06 certified.

Chin-bar use: check the certification label and supplied manual for the approved riding configurations. A lifting chin bar is useful when stopped, but it should not be assumed that every modular helmet is approved for riding with the chin bar raised.

Fit and choosing a size

The Threshold uses Icon's intermediate-oval Sport Fit, a common shape that is longer front-to-back than side-to-side. Head shape matters as much as circumference. Measure around the widest part of the head, compare the result with the size chart on the exact product page and try the helmet with the chin bar closed.

The crown should feel evenly supported without a sharp pressure point.
Cheek pads should hold the cheeks firmly when new, without causing pain.
The helmet should move the scalp when rotated, rather than sliding independently.
Check that the eye port, chin bar release and internal sun shield are easy to operate.
Fasten the retention system and confirm the helmet cannot roll forward off the head.

Vision and ventilation

The clear Threshold Shield is quick-change and described by Icon as fog-free and distortion-free. A separate dark-smoke Threshold Dropshield lowers inside the eye port to reduce glare in bright conditions. It does not replace the clear outer shield for night riding. Replacement outer shields are model-specific, so match the Threshold name and part description rather than buying by appearance alone.

Oversized intake and exhaust ports work with channels in the EPS liner to move air through the helmet. Ventilation performance still depends on speed, screen height, weather and riding position. The removable Hydradry comfort liner is designed to wick moisture and can be removed for cleaning in accordance with the supplied instructions.

Touring and communication features

Emergency-release cheek pads are provided to assist trained responders with helmet removal. The shell is also prepared for Icon's HelmLink Bluetooth system, sold separately. Before fitting any intercom, confirm the speaker and microphone arrangement does not create pressure points or interfere with the chin-bar mechanism.

Customer questions

Is the Icon Threshold a full-face or modular helmet?

It is a modular helmet with a flip-up chin bar. Check the certification label and manual for the configurations approved while riding.

What head shape does the Icon Threshold suit?

Icon specifies an intermediate-oval Sport Fit. A measured size is only a starting point, so check for even crown pressure and secure retention.

Does the Icon Threshold have an internal sun visor?

Yes. It has an integrated dark-smoke Threshold Dropshield behind the clear outer shield.

Can I fit an intercom?

The Threshold is designed for Icon's HelmLink communication system, which is sold separately. Check speaker position and chin-bar clearance during installation.

Are all Threshold graphics built to the same specification?

The products in this collection share the same listed shell, fit, chin-bar, shield, ventilation and liner features. Availability of colours and sizes can differ.
