Airframe Pro construction and fit

Fibreglass or carbon

Most Airframe Pro helmets use a handmade composite fibreglass FRP shell. Carbon 4Tress versions use a handmade carbon-fibre composite shell to reduce weight while retaining the same sport-focused platform.

Intermediate-oval headform

Icon describes the sport fit as intermediate oval, slightly longer from front to back than side to side. Correct size still depends on even contact around the head without painful pressure points or unwanted movement.

High-flow ventilation

Nine intake vents, seven exhaust ports and deep EPS channels provide extensive airflow. The shell shape is intended to work in a sports riding posture rather than simply chasing a visual racing style.

HydraDry interior

The removable five-piece moisture-wicking comfort liner allows separate crown, front, rear and side padding changes. Icon states that these sections provide up to 27 fit combinations within a shell.

Optics shield or TracShield?

The standard fog-free Optics shield has a positive lock and is shared with compatible Airform and Airmada helmets. The flatter TracShield adds posts for removable tear-offs, which are sold separately. Both use Icon's Rapid Release mechanism, but approval generation and part number must be matched to the helmet.

ECE generation check: Icon publishes different Optics and TracShield codes for ECE 22.05 and ECE 22.06 helmets. The current Airframe Pro specification is ECE 22.06, but older helmets and accessories remain in circulation. Read the helmet label and match the exact shield code.

Choosing between FRP and Carbon 4Tress

Both versions use the Airframe Pro's aerodynamic shape, intermediate-oval fit and removable HydraDry lining. The principal construction difference is the shell material. Carbon 4Tress is the lighter option and is supplied with Clear and Dark Smoke TracShields, while shield colour and box contents can vary on FRP graphics. Confirm the individual listing rather than assuming every graphic has the same visor package.

Fit and maintenance

Measure around the widest part of the head, compare the result with Icon's size chart and wear the helmet long enough to assess forehead, temple and crown pressure. With the strap fastened, the helmet should move with the scalp rather than rotate freely. Looser-fit replacement liner sets should only be chosen after confirming the original helmet size and the intended fit change.

Use lukewarm water and a soft cloth on the shield. Wash removable fabric components according to Icon's instructions and allow them to dry naturally. Replace a damaged pivot kit, shield or liner with the correct model and generation-specific part.

Customer questions

Is every Airframe Pro carbon?

No. Most versions use fibreglass FRP, while Carbon 4Tress models use a carbon-fibre composite shell.

Does an Airform shield fit?

The compatible IC-04 Optics shield is shared across Airframe Pro, Airform and Airmada, but the ECE generation and part code must still match.

What is the TracShield for?

It is a flatter shield with posts for optional tear-offs. It is not the same part as the standard Optics shield.

Can I use a looser-fit liner set?

Only after confirming compatibility with the helmet size and the intended change. A helmet must remain securely fitted.
