Merlin Leather Jackets

Merlin leather motorcycle jackets range from perforated warm-weather designs and traditional road jackets to waterproof and heat-reflective technical models. The 27 current listings include colour variations and both men's and women-specific products, so compare the actual model family rather than judging the breadth of the range by the product count alone.

Moto Central brings the live leather options into one place for side-by-side comparison. Product pages remain the source for the exact hide, garment class, armour supplied, ventilation, liner and connection details because these differ substantially across Chase, Gable, Alton, Icon, Revival, Torsten and other families.

Which leather construction suits you?

• Perforated leather: Chase 2 and Revival perforated models are aimed at increasing airflow. Perforation does not make them waterproof and may reduce comfort in cold wind.
• Waterproof leather: Merlin specifies Gable 2 as a laminated leather jacket with taped seams, waterproof external zips, a 10k/8k waterproof and breathability rating, a detachable thermal lining, five-piece D3O armour and EN 17092 AAA classification. These are Gable 2 details only.
• Heat-reflective leather: Torsten TFL is the relevant men's family when reduced solar heat absorption is a priority. Confirm colour, model year and the current technical specification on the listing.
• Classic road leather: Alton, Hixon and Icon families put more emphasis on heritage form and everyday road use. Compare ventilation, liner and weather information rather than assuming the traditional appearance means identical construction.

Fit, armour and connections

Leather should feel close enough to hold the impact protectors in place, but it must still let you reach the bars, turn your head and breathe comfortably. Sit in a riding posture to check sleeve length, shoulder movement and whether the hem stays covered. Allow space for the liner or layers you genuinely expect to use.

Check the garment's EN 17092 class separately from the approval level of its shoulder, elbow and back armour. Some models include a back protector while others provide only a pocket, so the word D3O in a product name is not a complete armour list. Confirm any jacket-to-trouser zip or belt loop arrangement on both garments.

Leather care and wet-weather use

Most leather jackets are not rain shells. Gable 2 is a specific exception with a manufacturer-stated waterproof construction. For other models, treat weather resistance cautiously and follow the product instructions.

Merlin advises removing dirt with a lint-free cloth or sponge, cold water and a small amount of neutral soap, then drying the garment away from direct heat. Naked leather styles such as Alton, Hixon and Torsten need different products from coated leather. Always test any treatment discreetly and follow the sewn-in label.

Customer questions

Are all Merlin leather jackets AAA rated?

No. Certification is model-specific. Chase 2, Gable 2 and Torsten listings reference AAA, but you should verify the exact product and model year before buying.

Is perforated leather waterproof?

No. Perforations promote airflow. Choose a jacket with a verified waterproof construction or carry a compatible rain layer if wet-weather coverage is essential.

How snug should a leather jacket be?

Close enough to keep armour correctly positioned, with enough movement for the riding posture and any intended liner or base layer. It should not pull open at fasteners or restrict breathing.
