Merlin Gloves

Merlin motorcycle gloves for heritage, summer and all-weather riding

Merlin gloves span short heritage leather, ventilated road and trail designs, waterproof touring options and heated winter products. The current Moto Central collection includes men’s and women’s shapes, with several colourways listed separately. That breadth makes the model specification important: D3O protection, waterproofing, heating and EN 13594 levels vary across the range.

Begin with the environment. Legacy and Imperial are leather-led heritage gloves, Aerolite and Airflow Trail target a lighter off-road or adventure look, and Overland Air, Kaplan and other mesh designs prioritise warm-weather airflow. Denali, Calton and Jura families cover different weather briefs, while Curborough and Bednell sit in the heated range.

Heritage leather and summer airflow

Merlin’s official Legacy specification identifies soft goat leather, perforated panels, a short snap-stud cuff, a reinforced palm, D3O knuckle protection and EN 13594 KP Level 1 certification. Imperial uses its own articulated hinge arrangement and should be treated as a distinct fit. Those details do not automatically describe every Merlin leather glove.

For hotter rides, mesh and perforated options such as Kaplan, Shenstone, Overland Air and Airflow Trail increase ventilation in different ways. Merlin lists Shenstone with a cowhide upper, mesh panels, D3O knuckle protection and EN 13594 KP Level 1. Kaplan combines an air-mesh upper with a goat-leather palm and is certified separately. Read the exact model page because mesh placement, cuff length and protector type differ.

Compare similar products in Moto Central’s motorcycle leather gloves and motorcycle textile gloves collections. A perforated or mesh glove is intended for airflow and should not be assumed to provide rain protection.

Waterproof and heated choices

Waterproof-labelled Merlin products include several leather and textile constructions rather than one standard recipe. Calton CE2 D3O Waterproof Leather, Denali D3O Waterproof Textile and Jura All Season Hydro are separate designs. Check the membrane, lining, cuff and certification on the product page before deciding which suits commuting or longer touring.

Heated gloves add another layer of comparison. Confirm whether batteries and charger are supplied, how the controls work and whether spare power components match that model. A heated glove still needs passive insulation appropriate to the ride and a secure wrist fit. Browse the wider heated motorcycle gloves and waterproof motorcycle gloves ranges if those requirements are the priority.

Fit, certification and cuff checks

• Measure the palm: use the fullest part of the hand, excluding the thumb, then follow the size guide for that glove and gender-specific shape.
• Form a riding grip: fingertips should not press hard into the ends, and the palm should remain smooth against the handlebar.
• Check the restraint: fasten the wrist or cuff and make sure the glove cannot pull off easily.
• Read the full EN 13594 result: Level 1, Level 2 and KP markings apply to the tested glove. D3O in a model name identifies a component, not the complete certification level.
• Match the sleeve: long cuffs need space over the jacket, while short cuffs should meet the sleeve without leaving exposed skin.
