John Doe neck tubes add a compact fabric layer between your riding collar and helmet. They are useful for covering an exposed neck and adapting your clothing as conditions change, without the loose ends of a scarf. Choose a comfortable thickness and fit first, then the plain colour or graphic that suits your riding kit.
The brand’s Springfield tube illustrates the format: a stretchy, seam-free technical microfibre tube described as breathable and quick drying. John Doe lists several ways to wear it, including as a neck warmer, bandana or beanie. Those options make a tube easy to carry, but you should choose the arrangement that stays comfortable and secure with your helmet.
A lightweight tube and a dedicated winter neck warmer fulfil different needs. Check the specific fabric and thickness rather than expecting a print or dark colour to add insulation.
Try the tube with your jacket closed and your helmet correctly fastened. Smooth out folds around the neck and avoid bunching fabric beneath the chin strap. If wearing it higher on the face, check that it stays clear of your eyes and does not interfere with the helmet’s fit or ventilation. Adjust it before setting off.
A neck tube is not impact armour or a replacement for a protective helmet, and breathable fabric should not be assumed to be waterproof or certified respiratory protection. On wet or very cold journeys, plan your collar, outer clothing and other layers together. Follow the washing instructions, let the tube dry fully and keep it separate from oily tools or workshop chemicals.
Graphic versions offer a different look without changing the basic buying priorities: comfortable stretch, suitable fabric and a tidy fit with the rest of your kit.
Bring your helmet and jacket to Moto Central to see how a neck tube sits at the collar and beneath the chin strap.
