John Doe body armour includes inserts for compatible riding garments, with different shapes for the back, hips and limb joints. Whether replacing a pad or adding optional protection, identify the garment and pocket first. The correct fit and position are essential parts of the choice, alongside the protector’s stated performance level.
Do not select an insert by brand or colour alone. Check the product reference, dimensions and intended body position against your clothing. John Doe’s XTM-150-2 back protector is listed at 42 by 18 cm, while its XTM-132-2 SEK joint inserts are listed at 123 by 194 mm. Those measurements illustrate why different armour types cannot be treated as universal replacements.
The SEK example is described for knee, elbow and shoulder pockets, but the actual garment must still accommodate the insert correctly. Hip pads have their own shape and specification.
John Doe’s verified Level 2 back example references EN 1621-2, while the checked hip and SEK inserts reference EN 1621-1. These standards address different protector locations. Level 1 or Level 2 on an insert is separate from an A, AA or AAA rating on a complete riding garment. An armour change does not upgrade the fabric or seams.
A kidney belt is also a different type of accessory; do not treat one as a certified back protector unless the exact product explicitly supplies that protection.
Fit the inserts as instructed, close the pockets and try your normal riding posture. Confirm that the pads stay over their intended areas without curling, sliding or making the garment too tight. Compare thickness as well as coverage when changing levels. Follow the individual care instructions and inspect inserts for damage before refitting them after cleaning.
We can help compare John Doe armour shapes and pocket sizes at Moto Central, then check the garment’s comfort with the inserts fitted.
