Held motorcycle body armour ranges from replacement impact protectors for compatible clothing to close-fitting protector vests and electronically activated airbag systems. This is not one interchangeable group. A back insert must match the pocket and size of the jacket, a wearable vest needs to sit securely beneath the outer layer, and an electronic airbag has activation and ownership requirements beyond ordinary passive armour. Check the individual product specification before choosing.
Choose the correct type of Held protection
Insert protectors
Back, chest, shoulder, elbow, knee, hip and coccyx pieces are made for specific pockets or fixing systems. Shape, dimensions, orientation and certification can differ even when two products protect the same body area.
Wearable protector vests
A separate vest keeps its protectors close to the body rather than relying on pockets in the jacket. Held's Exosafe Vest includes a Level 2 back protector, Level 1 chest protection and additional rib and coccyx reinforcement in the official specification.
Electronic airbag vests
Held eVest models use In&motion electronics. The eVest 2 is intended to sit beneath suitable motorcycle outerwear, but enough expansion space is essential and the required In&box account, activation and ongoing service options need checking.
Kidney belts and accessories
Kidney belts can add support and reduce draughts around the waist, while protector pockets or adapters help position compatible armour. They should not be treated as certified impact protection unless the exact product specification states that function and standard.
How to check compatibility
Start with the make and model of the clothing that will hold the protector. Compare the receiving pocket with the protector's length, width and outline, and check whether the item slides into a pocket, attaches with hook-and-loop material or uses a dedicated Held system. The Held Viper Air D3O back insert, for example, is sold in S, M, L and XL with different physical dimensions.
Once fitted, the protector should cover its intended area without curling at the edges or forcing the garment out of shape. Put the jacket or trousers on, adopt a riding position and check that the armour remains centred over the joint or spine. If it migrates, the garment may be too loose, the pocket adjustment may need changing, or the insert may be the wrong size.
Passive armour or an airbag?
Passive protectors work without charging, software or activation and are normally the simpler choice for upgrading compatible Held jackets, Held textile trousers or Held leather trousers. Confirm that the clothing has the correct pockets and that the selected protector size is listed as compatible.
An electronic airbag can add protection around several torso areas, but it brings a different routine. The eVest 2 relies on the In&box control module and an In&motion account, with purchase or rental and subscription choices that can involve additional costs. Charging status, software readiness, correct closure and space beneath the outer jacket should be checked before each ride. Follow Held and In&motion instructions after any deployment.

Can any Held back protector fit any Held jacket?
No. Protector pockets and insert dimensions vary. Check the jacket's stated protector compatibility and compare it with the exact insert size before ordering.
Is Level 2 always better than Level 1?
Level 2 permits lower transmitted force in the relevant test, but fit, coverage, position and the correct standard still matter. A protector that does not fit the garment or sit over the intended area is not a suitable upgrade.
Does the Held eVest 2 work without an In&box?
No. Held states that the In&box control module and an In&motion account are required. Check the current purchase, rental and membership terms before use because these can add costs beyond the vest.
Do kidney belts replace impact armour?
No. A kidney belt may provide support or wind protection, but it should not be counted as certified back, chest or limb armour unless its own specification explicitly says so.
