Motorcycle neck tubes, neck warmers and storm collars help you tailor the gap between helmet and jacket to the weather. Compare lightweight stretch fabrics, warmer fleece designs and weatherproof collars by their coverage and fit. Choose a layer that stays comfortable when you turn your head and works with the jacket you ride in.

Neck tubes and storm collars do different jobs
Lightweight neck tubes
A simple stretch tube is an easy layer to pack and wear around the neck. Compare its length, fabric and seam finish. Oxford's Coolmax neck tube, for example, uses four-way stretch and flat-lock seams; those details are useful when assessing comfort beneath a collar.
Warmer neck coverings
For colder journeys, look at fleece, wool blends and other insulating designs. Consider how much fabric gathers at the front of your jacket when it is zipped up. The warmest-looking option may be less comfortable if your existing collar already fits closely.
Windproof neck layers
A design with a stated windproof panel can address exposure around the neck. Check where that panel sits and how the rest of the garment stretches. Wind resistance alone does not establish waterproofing, so compare the actual weather-protection specification.
Waterproof storm collars
These are shaped to bridge the helmet and jacket area. Oxford's Advanced Storm Collar combines a waterproof membrane, windproof softshell and fleece backing, with an edge designed to fit over a jacket collar. Follow the particular collar's fitting instructions when arranging the layers.
Start with the jacket you already wear
Try the neckwear with your jacket fully fastened. Check the front zip area, the back of your neck and any point where several fabrics overlap. A short collar and a tall touring collar create different spaces, so the same neck tube can feel quite different in each.
Put on your helmet and check your normal range of head movement. If you intend to pull the fabric higher over your face, assess that position too. It should remain clear of your view and sit comfortably without pulling other layers out of place.
Choose coverage without adding unnecessary bulk
Longer tubes can offer more scope for arranging coverage, while shaped collars have a defined position. Consider whether you need neck warmth alone or a layer over the head as well. For the latter, compare motorcycle balaclavas rather than trying to make one accessory perform every task.
Check any size options or adjustment system. Stretch and a one-size label do not guarantee that every rider will find the fit comfortable, especially with a closely fitted helmet and jacket.
Plan for a changing day on the bike
A light tube is convenient to carry when a morning starts cool but the afternoon warms up. For prolonged wet weather, consider the neckwear alongside waterproof over-clothing and check how the collar arrangement works as a whole. Follow each item's care instructions so membranes, seams and stretch fabrics receive the appropriate treatment.
Bring your jacket when comparing neckwear
At Moto Central in Wolvey, check neck tubes and collars alongside your own helmet and jacket. This makes it easier to judge coverage, movement and the amount of fabric around the fastening.
