What the EN 1621-1 label covers
Hip armour is assessed under EN 1621-1 for motorcycle limb-joint protectors. The marking can identify Level 1 or Level 2 performance and a coverage type. Level 2 uses lower permitted transmitted-force limits, but performance level does not remove the need for the right pocket fit and correct coverage.
Separate approvals: an EN 1621-1 hip protector is tested as an impact component. The jeans or trousers around it have their own garment construction and approval, so do not infer abrasion or seam performance from the armour label.
Position the armour in a riding posture
Fasten the garment and sit as you would on the motorcycle. The protector should cover the side of the hip without sliding towards the front, rear or waistband. It should not form a hard pressure edge against the seat, bunch in the pocket or restrict the leg when placing a foot down.
Low-profile designs can be easier to accommodate in slim-cut jeans, while larger coverage shapes need sufficient pocket and garment space. Choose the certified option that the garment can hold securely rather than selecting by thickness alone.
Multi-position protectors
Some products are marked for both hip and shoulder use, while others have different Type A or Type B applications depending on the body area. Follow the exact product marking and description. Similar appearance does not make an insert approved for every joint or pocket.
