Motorcycle hi vis clothing includes vests, belts and outer layers designed to help you stand out. Compare fluorescent colour, reflective coverage and fit over your riding kit for the conditions you encounter. Think about the complete outfit, including rainwear and luggage, when deciding which visibility layer works for your commute or touring ride.

Understand colour and reflection
Fluorescent fabric and retroreflective material contribute in different lighting conditions. Bright fluorescent colours help create contrast against the surroundings, while retroreflective areas return light towards its source, such as vehicle headlights. Look at both the background fabric and the placement of reflective panels when comparing garments.
No garment guarantees that another road user will notice you. Choose a visibility layer as part of your riding equipment and read the actual product specification rather than judging its performance from colour alone.
Vests and gilets
A vest adds visible material over an existing jacket without replacing it. Compare the front closure, stretch panels and coverage around the back and sides. Oxford's Utility Bright Top, for example, is sized to fit over a jacket and includes reflective detailing and storage pockets.
Belts and harnesses
These provide a different coverage pattern with less fabric than a vest. Examine strap position and adjustment over your riding outfit, including how the design appears from the side and rear. Secure loose strap ends according to the instructions.
Reflective rainwear
A waterproof outer layer can combine weather protection with visibility features. Check both functions independently: reflective fabric does not itself establish waterproofing, and a waterproof garment need not have substantial reflective coverage. Consider which layer will be outermost once the rain starts.
Packable visibility layers
If you carry a vest for use when conditions change, compare its packed size and how easily it fits over your normal kit. Choose a closure you can secure properly and a cut that remains comfortable in your riding position.
Fit the layer over your actual riding kit
Try the garment over the jacket and layers you normally wear. It should fasten comfortably without excessive loose fabric or restriction. Read the size guide before automatically ordering a larger size; some products already allow for an underlying motorcycle jacket.
Check the whole outfit with a backpack or other worn equipment. Straps and bags can cover panels that looked prominent when the vest was worn alone. Consider the visible areas from the front, back and sides.
Check protection and weather claims separately
A visibility vest should not be assumed to provide motorcycle abrasion or impact protection. Choose appropriate motorcycle jackets and protective equipment beneath it. Any visibility certification applies to the named garment and standard, not automatically to every item in this collection.
For wet journeys, compare waterproof over-clothing and decide how the layers will work together. Follow the care label, including any washing limits, and inspect reflective areas and fastenings as part of looking after the garment.
Check visibility layers with the kit you wear
Bring your jacket and backpack to Moto Central in Wolvey when comparing hi vis clothing. We can help you assess sizing, fastenings and which parts of the garment remain uncovered in your usual riding outfit.
