Keep your helmet comfortable to wear and your view clear with motorcycle helmet cleaning products, visor cleaners and suitable cloths. Choose the product for the part you are cleaning, whether that is the shell, visor or removable lining. Check the helmet manufacturer's instructions first, especially for coated visors and anti-fog inserts.

Different parts of a helmet need different care
Outer shell and trim
Match the cleaning method to the helmet's materials and finish. Matt and gloss surfaces may have different care restrictions. SHOEI, for example, recommends mild neutral soap and lukewarm water and advises against polishes or waxes on its helmets.
Visors and goggles
Use a method approved for the visor or lens, including any coatings. Soften stubborn insect residue before removing it and use a clean, suitable cloth. A cleaner intended for a helmet visor should still be checked against the maker's instructions.
Removable comfort lining
Check how the cheek pads and centre lining detach, and follow their washing instructions. Do not assume that the whole helmet can be washed like the removable textile parts. Allow the lining to dry fully as directed before refitting it.
Anti-fog inserts
An insert inside the visor is a separate component with its own cleaning requirements. Pinlock lenses need gentle handling and model-appropriate care. Do not assume a visor spray, rain repellent or anti-fog treatment is suitable for the insert.
Choose a cleaner, lining treatment or complete kit
Think about the tasks you want to cover before comparing bottle sizes. A compact visor cleaner and clean cloth can be useful when travelling, while a home kit may include separate products for the interior and exterior.
Muc-Off's Helmet Cleaning Kit, for example, separates Foam Fresh from its visor cleaner and supplies cloths. That illustrates different cleaning roles rather than one formula for every helmet surface. Read the contents and instructions of the exact kit, then check compatibility with your helmet.
Take care with coatings and anti-fog products
Mirrored finishes, factory anti-fog coatings and removable Pinlock inserts should not automatically receive the same treatment as an uncoated outer visor. Check the permitted cleaning method and whether a proposed treatment is suitable for the inside or outside surface.
Pinlock's support guidance recommends gentle cleaning and natural drying before reassembly. Follow the instructions supplied with the exact lens, and keep its sealing edge clean. Persistent misting may require a fit or seal check rather than another layer of spray.
Keep cloths clean and let components dry
Store helmet-care cloths away from brushes and rags used on greasy motorcycle parts. Choose a clean cloth for each job so you do not transfer dirt or residue to the visor. Check the product's application instructions instead of spraying indiscriminately over the helmet.
Use the drying method specified by the helmet maker. SHOEI advises against a hairdryer or tumble dryer for its padding. Avoid household glass cleaner and aggressive solvents where the manufacturer prohibits them; a familiar household product is not automatically suitable for helmet materials.
Cleaning cannot repair worn or damaged parts
If the visor remains scratched or vision is impaired after cleaning, compare the correct replacement motorcycle visor. For worn comfort components, check helmet padding and spare parts by exact model and size.
Keep the helmet protected when travelling with a suitable helmet or visor bag. Establishing a simple care routine is more useful than allowing grime to build up and then using a harsher treatment to remove it.
