Elbow Protectors

Motorcycle elbow protectors range from removable jacket inserts to independently worn guards for off-road riding. Choose the design around your sleeves, riding position and preferred protection setup. Compare coverage, impact rating and retention, with particular attention to where the protector sits when your arms are bent towards the handlebars.

Choose inserts or separately worn elbow guards
Replacement jacket inserts
These fit dedicated armour pockets in motorcycle jackets and suits. Identify the garment's specified protector shape and any adjustable pocket positions. The replacement should sit correctly when the sleeve is fastened, without bunching or leaving the pocket closure under strain.
Low-profile flexible armour
A flatter, flexible design may suit a closely fitted sleeve where bulk matters. D3O Ghost L2 is one example with Level 2 performance and Type A coverage. Compare the exact dimensions and application rather than assuming a slim protector is interchangeable with every existing pad.
Pre-curved inserts
A shaped insert can follow a bent-arm position. D3O Diablo L2 uses a pre-curved construction and includes different coverage options within its range. Choose the version specified for the elbow application and the available space in your garment.
Strap and sleeve guards
Independently worn guards have their own retention arrangement. Alpinestars' Bionic Pro Plasma elbow guard combines a sleeve, upper strap, protective shells and a removable Level 2 insert for off-road use. Check fit beneath your jersey and how comfortably the guard articulates.
Check placement with your arms bent
Put on the complete outfit and adopt your normal riding posture. The protective area should remain over the intended elbow region as your arm bends. If the jacket provides adjustment, use its instructions to position the insert rather than judging the fit only while standing with straight arms.
For separate guards, follow the maker's measurement points and strap sequence. Check both the upper arm and forearm fit. Secure retention should not require excessive tightening to compensate for the wrong size.
Compare rating and coverage separately
Look for the elbow protector's EN 1621-1 marking and stated performance level. Also check whether the specific version is Type A or Type B. The coverage type is a separate specification from Level 1 or Level 2, so read both when comparing replacements.
Product names sometimes list knee and elbow applications together. Use only the body positions and garment applications confirmed for that exact part. A shared material name does not establish a fit.
Distinguish protection from external sliders
An elbow insert or wearable impact guard is different from an external wear slider on racing leathers. If you are replacing the outside contact piece, browse knee and elbow sliders and identify its mounting system.
For a complete road outfit, compare suitable motorcycle jackets and shoulder protectors. Check the clothing's own protection specification as well as the inserts.
Care for the protector and its carrier
Follow the separate cleaning instructions for the armour and garment. For D3O components, do not modify the protector or put it through the garment wash; use the manufacturer's care guidance and inspect for damage before riding.
Check elbow placement in your riding position
Bring your jacket or off-road jersey to Moto Central in Wolvey. We can help compare suitable inserts or guards and check how they sit when your arms are bent, including any available sleeve adjustment.
