Motorcycle Locks & Chains

Choose motorcycle locks and chains around where you park, how you can secure the bike and what you can carry on a journey. Compare disc locks, security chains, U-locks, alarms and ground anchors as parts of a complete setup. Check the physical fit and independent approval of each product before choosing.

Build security around your parking routine
Overnight parking at home and a short stop away from home create different practical needs. A heavy chain can stay beside a suitable anchor, while a travel lock needs a secure place in your luggage. Think about both situations rather than expecting one item to suit every stop.
Police guidance recommends combining a lock, chain and cover. Securing the motorcycle to a suitable immovable object adds a different obstacle from locking a wheel alone. No security product guarantees that a bike cannot be stolen, so consider how the parts work together.
Compare the main types of motorcycle security
Disc locks
Check the pin diameter, reach and clearance against your brake disc before purchase. The lock must fit the available opening without fouling nearby components. A reminder cable can help you remember it is fitted; remove the lock before moving the bike.
Chains and padlocks
Compare chain length, link dimensions and the compatible lock. Measure the route to your intended anchor and check that the links pass through the chosen locking point. Establish whether you are buying a complete set, a chain alone or a separate padlock.
U-locks and D-locks
The usable space inside the shackle matters as well as its thickness. Compare the dimensions with the wheel and any anchoring point you plan to use. Check how the lock will be carried when it is not fitted.
Ground anchors and alarms
An anchor requires a suitable installation location and substrate. Follow its fixing instructions and check chain clearance before installation. For alarmed locks, compare the activation method, battery arrangements and weather suitability alongside the mechanical locking features.
Understand the approval on the exact product
Sold Secure tests security products against defined attack methods. For a motorcycle, look at the relevant Powered Cycle approval and confirm the exact product in its approved-product database. A similar name or a rating from another product category is not enough to establish the same specification.
Check your insurer's requirements before buying, including any required lock, grade or storage arrangement. Independent certification helps you compare tested products, but it does not automatically establish that your particular policy conditions have been met.
Make the setup practical to use every time
Choose a chain length that reaches the anchor without leaving unnecessary slack on the ground. At home, plan the anchor position around where the bike actually parks. Away from home, consider where you can secure it and how accessible the lock will be when you stop.
Use appropriate motorcycle luggage to carry security equipment within the relevant load limits. A motorcycle cover can conceal the bike and complement the locks; it does not replace them. A tracker serves another role and should be considered alongside physical security.
Look after keys and moving parts
Keep any key code or registration details securely, and follow the manufacturer's care instructions for the lock cylinder and alarm. Check operation before leaving the bike, including the battery status where relevant. Choose a routine that is straightforward enough to use consistently.
Check the dimensions before choosing your lock
Contact Moto Central with your motorcycle details and the measurements of the intended locking point. For a home setup, include the anchor location and required chain reach so we can help you compare suitable options.
