Braces

Motorcycle trouser braces support the waistband from the shoulders, offering an alternative to tightening a belt around the waist. They can be useful with riding trousers that feel comfortable standing but move when you sit on the bike. Choose the attachment system first, then check length adjustment and comfort with your usual layers.

Match the braces to your trousers
Look at the waistband for the intended fixing points. Braces may use clips or a dedicated connection, and a zipped suspender needs the correct matching zip. Check the trouser manufacturer's guidance rather than assuming that a familiar brand name or similar-looking fastening guarantees a fit.
Rukka, for example, specifies compatibility for its braces with Rukka motorcycle trousers manufactured since 2004. That is a statement about those particular braces and trousers, not a universal fitting rule. Check your own trouser model, especially when replacing an original detachable set.
Adjust them in your riding position
Shoulder comfort
Set both sides evenly so the straps lie flat without twisting. Try them over the base or mid layers you normally wear, then put on the jacket. Check that adjusters and straps do not create uncomfortable pressure beneath your other equipment.
Waistband position
Sit as you would on the motorcycle and move between seated and standing positions. The braces should support the trousers without pulling the crotch or waistband too high. Recheck where the trouser legs and knee protectors sit after adjustment.
Keep the rest of the outfit in mind
Check that the braces can be used with the jacket-to-trouser connection you intend to fasten. Allow access to waist adjusters and pockets, and consider how easily you can remove a layer during a longer journey.
Braces cannot compensate for trousers that are fundamentally the wrong size or shape. Compare motorcycle trousers if the fit remains awkward. If you prefer support around the waist, browse motorcycle belts and check the belt-loop dimensions.
Inspect the fastenings
Check clips, stitching, elastic and connection points regularly, following the maker's care instructions. Replace damaged fittings rather than relying on extra strap tension to keep an insecure attachment in place.
Check braces with your riding kit
