Choose a motorcycle cover around where you store your bike, whether that is a garage, driveway or temporary parking space on a trip. Compare indoor dust covers and outdoor weather covers by their construction, dimensions and fastening system. Include your screen, mirrors and fitted luggage when deciding which shape and size you need.

Indoor storage or outdoor parking?
Indoor dust covers
For a bike kept inside, a lightweight cover can help keep dust off the surfaces between rides. Oxford's Dormex is an example of a breathable indoor design. Check the lining and fit, especially if you regularly remove and replace the cover.
Outdoor weather covers
For exposed parking, compare the stated rain protection, seam construction and ventilation. Consider the fastening beneath the bike and how you will secure the cover. An outdoor cover needs to suit both the motorcycle's shape and the conditions where it will be used.
Travel and occasional use
If the cover needs to travel with you, look at its packed dimensions, weight and storage bag. Think about how it will fit in your motorcycle luggage and where you will put it if it is wet when you leave.
Bikes with extra equipment
Top boxes, tall screens, panniers and wider mirrors alter the space a cover needs. Compare versions shaped for those additions rather than assuming a larger standard size will fit equally well. Measure the bike in the configuration you normally park it.
Choose by dimensions, not engine size alone
Two motorcycles with similar engine capacities can have very different proportions. Use the cover's measurement guide and check length, width and height against the bike. Look at how the cover is shaped around the front and rear, not simply the size printed on the bag.
Decide whether luggage will remain fitted while covered. A dedicated top-box version, such as Oxford's Aquatex Top Box design, illustrates how rear clearance can change. Check the fit over accessories without pulling the material tight across sharp edges.
Compare fastening and ventilation
Elasticated hems and an under-bike strap help manage the fitted cover. Check how easy they are to reach in your usual parking space. Look for the features you need, such as lock openings or a covered number-plate window, and verify them on the selected model.
Ventilation is worth checking alongside rain protection. Oxford describes the Stormex's vents as helping reduce condensation. That is different from a promise that no moisture can collect beneath a cover. Follow the care and drying guidance for the cover and motorcycle.
Let hot components cool before covering
Do not treat a heat-resistant lining as permission to cover a hot exhaust. Oxford's Stormex guidance specifically prohibits contact with hot exhausts and engine parts despite including a heat-resistant lining. Follow your selected cover's instructions and keep it clear of sharp components.
Use a cover alongside motorcycle security
A cover conceals the motorcycle and can form part of the police-recommended lock, chain and cover approach. Pair it with suitable locks and chains, checking that any openings line up with your security arrangement.
Keep the inside of the cover clean, inspect the fastenings and allow it to dry as directed before packing it away. For care products used before storage, browse motorcycle cleaning products and choose those suitable for the bike's finishes.
