XTM protectors are associated with John Doe riding equipment and are selected by body area, protection specification and garment compatibility. An armour insert is one part of a protective outfit. It needs to fit its pocket and remain positioned over the area it is intended to protect.

Read the individual protector marking
Check the body-area designation, level and dimensions of the exact insert or set. Different XTM protectors and generations should not be assumed to share a rating. A set name also needs a contents check so you know which areas are covered and which inserts are supplied separately.
Match the garment pocket and riding position
Compare the insert with the garment’s specified armour and pocket shape. Once fitted, bend your knees or elbows and adopt your normal riding posture. The protector should remain correctly located without folding or creating uncomfortable pressure. Follow any pocket-position adjustment instructions for the garment.
Keep impact armour and fabric claims separate
John Doe also uses the XTM name in fabric technology. An impact protector’s rating does not describe the abrasion performance of the surrounding garment. Check both specifications independently. Follow care instructions when removing and reinstalling armour, and inspect the inserts and pocket closures before riding.
