Nolan motorcycle helmets include full-face, modular and crossover designs for different journeys. An opening chin bar, a removable chin guard and a fixed full-face shell are distinct ways of building a helmet, so start by choosing the arrangement that suits your riding. Fit, clear vision and straightforward controls should guide the decision before graphics or accessories.
The N120-1 is a Nolan flip-back example: its chin guard rotates through 180 degrees towards the rear of the shell. The N70-2 X takes a different crossover approach, with a removable protective chin guard and configurable components. These examples explain the design choices; they do not make the helmets equivalent in every configuration. Check the instructions and approval for the exact arrangement you intend to use.
Consider how the visor operates, whether the vents are easy to reach and how the helmet feels in your riding position. If a modular design appeals, practise closing and securing the chin section while wearing it. Include your glasses in the fitting check and assess the fit with the helmet fully closed.
With a fixed full-face design, compare the view while upright and while leaning forward. A helmet that suits one riding position may feel different on another bike. Check the fastening and visor controls with your gloves on, and confirm any event requirements separately if you intend to use it on a circuit.
Nolan provides configuration guidance for its N-Com systems. Match the exact helmet model and system version, including the required mounting arrangement and microphone. Communications preparation does not necessarily mean the electronics are included. Confirm the complete combination before choosing accessories, especially when moving equipment from an older helmet.
Fasten the strap and check that the helmet sits securely without painful pressure points. Consult the relevant manual before removing padding, changing a visor or rearranging crossover components. Keep the full model reference to hand when buying spares; a similar family name or graphic does not establish compatibility. Explore replacement motorcycle visors or compare the wider helmet collection as you narrow down your choice.
