Origins in Australia
Quad Lock began in Melbourne in 2011, founded by Rob Ward and Chris Peters. The idea came about when the two were looking for a secure and reliable way to mount smartphones to bikes. They wanted something that worked well both on bicycles and motorcycles, and wasn’t bulky or unreliable.
A Successful Kickstarter Launch
In December 2011 they launched a Kickstarter campaign to get their first product off the ground. The campaign reached its funding goal quickly, signalling that the concept resonated with many riders. From that point, they moved into production, refining the design and building a manufacturing and distribution system.
Expanding Mounts and Markets
Initially focused on cycling, Quad Lock soon realised the demand from motorcyclists. They adapted their mounting system and expanded the product line. Over time they introduced mounts for cars, off‑road vehicles, and lifestyle use, tailoring each design to the needs of the users. The mounting mechanism secure, compact and intuitive became the backbone of the brand’s appeal.
Growth, Partnerships and Acquisition
Quad Lock steadily grew its reach across more than 100 countries. Its reputation for quality mounts and strong design helped win both everyday riders and professionals as customers. Later, there was a major development when Quad Lock became part of the Thule Group, marking a new chapter in scale, resources and global capacity.
