NEXX X.WED3 Helmet Review: Carbon Adventure Versatility for Road and Off-Road Riding - FREE UK Shipping, FREE 365 Day Returns | Moto Central

The NEXX X.WED3 is designed for riders who do not want to choose between a dedicated adventure setup and a full-face street configuration. Developed for on-road touring, off-road exploration and long-distance travel, the X.WED3 can transition between riding styles without tools and can also accommodate goggles when conditions get dusty. NEXX says the model was tested over around 200,000 km by more than 60 adventure riders in demanding locations around the world.

Built for Adventure, Touring and Everyday Riding

The X.WED3 combines an adventure-style peak, panoramic eye port and off-road-ready details with a visor and integrated sun visor for road use. Its design is intended to make the move from trail riding to tarmac straightforward, while the included street covers and visor mechanism covers help complete the road-focused configuration.

X-PRO Carbon Shell and ECE 22.06 Approval

The Golden Dune version shown here uses NEXX's X-PRO Carbon shell construction, combining 3K carbon with composite technology developed using aerospace knowledge. NEXX lists three shell sizes across the range: XXS-S, M-L and XL-XXXL. The current X-PRO Carbon specification lists a weight of 1725g +/- 50g and homologation to ECE 22.06 (UN), alongside FMVSS No.218 (DOT), NBR7471:2015 and GB811:2022 (CCC).

For X-Matrix2 versions, NEXX's technical sheet lists a higher stated weight of 1790g +/- 50g, so the exact weight depends on the shell construction and version selected.

Designed to Switch Between Road and Off-Road

One of the X.WED3's defining features is its configurable design. NEXX describes the helmet as providing a seamless transition between an off-road/adventure helmet and a street-riding full-face helmet without requiring tools. A goggle strap holder is built into the rear of the helmet, while the design also supports the use of goggles in dusty environments.

Recoil Visor System and Larger Inner Sun Visor

The X.WED3 uses NEXX's Recoil Visor System. Spring-loaded side plates automatically adjust and pull the visor back against the dual-lip window beading to help create an airtight seal, while the visor mechanism operates independently from the peak.

The integrated inner sun visor is 18% larger than the previous design and extends down to just above the nose bridge. X-PRO Carbon versions include a Pinlock 120 XLT MaxVision insert, while X-Matrix2 versions use Pinlock 70 according to NEXX.

Seven Intakes, Four Exhausts and Airflow Chambers

Ventilation is a major part of the X.WED3 design, with seven closable air intakes and four exhaust outlets. The Mid Airflow Chamber is designed to create a gap between the inner and outer EPS sections so fresh air can circulate around the head before hot air exits through the rear. Cheek-pad ventilation and the Air Cumbs cooling chamber add further airflow around the interior.

Anti-Vibration EPS and X-Foam Crash Bumpers

The anti-vibration EPS system uses a rubber trim between the inner and outer EPS to allow controlled micromovement of the inner layer. NEXX says this is intended to reduce vibration caused by air turbulence at higher speeds and provide a smoother, more stable riding feel.

On X-PRO Carbon versions, X-Foam crash bumpers made from lightweight EPP foam are positioned in the chin and side areas. NEXX says the bumper design is intended to absorb crash energy and soften the crash pulse. The shell also has a softer, rounder base edge around the chin area, which NEXX designed with the aim of reducing chest-injury risk from frontal impacts.

Comfortable X-Mart Dry Interior with Fast Release System

The interior combines X-Mart Dry fabrics with ventilation mesh and an Air Cumbs crown pad designed to create a fresh-air chamber between the EPS and padding. The lining and 3D-formed pads are removable and washable, while the cheek pads use NEXX's X-Hydro materials.

The F.R.S. (Fast Release System) allows both cheek pads to be removed without tools. NEXX designed the system to make cleaning easier and, importantly, to allow rescue personnel to remove the cheek pads with minimal friction in an emergency situation.

Adventure-Focused Peak with Three-Level Adjustment

The X.WED3 peak is designed around stable aerodynamics, allowing airflow to pass through while helping the helmet remain composed at higher speeds. It has three adjustment positions and can be removed using anti-rotation mounting screws. A screwless peak extensor is also included for situations where extra protection from low sun is useful.

Integrated Intercom and Action Camera Preparation

The X.WED3 is prepared for NEXX's X-COM3 and X-COM3 PRO communication systems. The fully integrated X-COM3 platform can accommodate the speakers, battery, cables and microphone inside the helmet, with Bluetooth 5.2 technology. The X-COM3 PRO adds 2.0 Mesh technology and Harman Kardon sound features.

For content creators and adventure riders, NEXX includes action-camera mounting points for the top, side and chin positions on the X-PRO Carbon version shown here. This gives riders several options for recording trail sections, touring routes or everyday journeys.

Is the NEXX X.WED3 Right for You?

The X.WED3 is aimed at riders who want one helmet that can cover a wide range of adventure use. Its ability to move between off-road and street configurations, combined with a peak, goggles provision, sun visor, substantial ventilation system and integrated communications preparation, makes it particularly relevant to riders who regularly switch between different riding environments.

If you are comparing versions, pay attention to the shell construction and included equipment. The X-PRO Carbon and X-Matrix2 versions do not have identical weight or Pinlock specifications, so the individual colourway should be checked before purchase.

Final Thoughts

The NEXX X.WED3 brings a comprehensive set of adventure features into a configurable full-face platform. The X-PRO Carbon Golden Dune version combines a carbon composite shell with ECE 22.06 approval, a large ventilation system, Recoil visor technology, an enlarged sun visor, emergency-release cheek pads, camera mounts and X-COM3 communication preparation.

For riders looking for a helmet that can move from long road miles to dusty trails without changing to a separate helmet, the X.WED3 is built around exactly that kind of flexibility.
