The Dainese Smart GO airbag system brings D-air protection into a compact, lightweight format designed for everyday motorcycling. Built around a 780g electronic airbag vest, the system can be worn over or under suitable riding clothing and expanded with a dedicated 15-litre backpack, Smart GO Power Bank and user-replaceable gas generator.
All four parts of the Smart GO riding kit are listed at Moto Central and available to pre-order. This guide explains how the vest works, what makes the matching backpack different from an ordinary motorcycle bag, and which accessories are required to keep the system powered and ready for further activations.
What Is the Dainese Smart GO Airbag Vest?
Smart GO is a stand-alone electronic motorcycle airbag vest created for urban commuting, everyday road riding, touring and light gravel use. It does not need to be connected to the motorcycle, so riders can move between different bikes without installing cables or sensors on each machine.
The vest uses Dainese D-air technology and provides Level 2 certified airbag protection across the chest and back. Sensors and the electronic control system monitor the dynamics of the ride, with the airbag designed to deploy when the system recognises a relevant accident scenario.
At approximately 780g, Smart GO is designed to reduce the weight and bulk traditionally associated with wearable airbag protection. The one-size construction uses adjustable front sections and a waist strap to position the device correctly around different body shapes and clothing combinations.
780g Construction
A compact, minimalist design intended to make electronic airbag protection easier to wear on daily journeys.
Level 2 Protection
The inflated airbag is certified to provide Level 2 protection for both the chest and back.
Stand-Alone Operation
No physical connection or installation on the motorcycle is required.
Up to Three Activations
The airbag can support up to three deployments when the device remains undamaged and passes the required integrity checks.
Designed for Daily Riding
The main idea behind Smart GO is to make airbag protection part of the rider's normal routine. Its low-profile construction allows it to be worn over motorcycle clothing or under compatible jackets and casual garments, provided the fit and adjustment leave the space required for airbag inflation.
Before every journey, the vest must be positioned correctly, the waist strap adjusted and the front fasteners closed. The configurable front sections should be set for the chosen over-garment or under-garment arrangement. Correct positioning matters because an airbag system needs both secure placement and sufficient expansion room.

Low-Profile Front
Adjustable front sections and a waist strap help secure the vest around the rider.

Chest and Back Coverage
The compact layout is designed to deliver Level 2 certified airbag protection to both areas.
How Smart GO Arms and Operates
The system is registered, configured and managed through the Dainese D-air app. Riders can use the app to enable the device, check its operating status, receive notifications and install firmware updates.
Smart GO arms when it detects vehicle vibration or a speed above 10km/h. If those conditions are not present, protection is not guaranteed. Dainese states that the system can be used on electric motorcycles, but protection is not guaranteed below 10km/h or when the vehicle is not producing detectable vibration.
This detail is important: Smart GO is protective equipment rather than a fit-and-forget electronic accessory. The wearer should check the status indication and correct fit before each ride and follow Dainese's registration, setup and inspection instructions.
A Different Approach to Power
Unlike an airbag vest with a conventional built-in rechargeable battery, Smart GO runs from an external USB-C power source. The built-in LED cable can draw power from an OTG-compatible smartphone or from the dedicated Dainese Smart GO Power Bank.
Using a compatible smartphone can be convenient for short journeys, although operating time depends on the phone, its charge level and its OTG implementation. The dedicated Smart GO Power Bank is the more self-contained option and avoids using the rider's phone battery. Dainese states that it can provide up to 72 hours of system operation.
Smart GO Power Bank
The dedicated power bank costs £35 at Moto Central. It is designed specifically as the optional external power supply for Smart GO, extending operating time without drawing energy from the rider's phone. Only power sources approved and authorised for the system should be used.
The Dedicated Dainese Smart GO Backpack
The Dainese Smart GO Backpack is more than a matching day bag. It is specifically developed to attach to the Smart GO vest through its dedicated fastening system, using magnetic clips for quick connection even when the vest is already being worn.
Its 15-litre capacity is aimed at commuting and day-to-day mobility. Separate spaces for a laptop, tablet and personal items help organise work and travel equipment, while water-resistant fabric supports use in changing conditions. The clean shape follows the compact Smart GO concept without adding unnecessary straps around the airbag system.
The backpack can be unclipped when it is not needed and stored in a top box or under-seat compartment where space permits. Dainese advises using the dedicated backpack because the compatibility and operation of third-party backpacks worn over Smart GO have not been evaluated.

Integrated Attachment
The backpack connects to the airbag vest through its purpose-designed magnetic fastening system.

15-Litre Everyday Storage
Water-resistant construction with organised space for a laptop, tablet and daily essentials.
Smart GO Gas Generator and Reactivation
The Dainese Smart GO Shield Gas Generator is the £59 replacement component used to reset an eligible Smart GO vest after activation. The system is designed to support up to three activations, and the compact generator can be replaced by the user when the correct Dainese procedure is followed.
Replacement is not automatic permission to reuse the vest. After a fall or deployment, the device must first be inspected for tears, cuts, abrasion or other damage, particularly around the airbag. The airbag must then pass the specified pressure-integrity test using the supplied adapter and a suitable pump or compressor. If there is visible damage, a failed test or any uncertainty, the system should not be reused and Dainese support should be contacted.
Once the maximum number of supported activations has been reached, or if the system cannot be safely reset, professional inspection or replacement will be required. Riders should keep the instructions with the kit and understand the procedure before relying on a spare generator during a trip.

Who Is Dainese Smart GO For?
Smart GO is aimed at riders who want electronic airbag protection without integrating equipment into one specific motorcycle or committing to a heavy, bulky outer garment. Its compact design is particularly relevant to commuters, urban riders and tourers who change bikes, ride in different clothing and want a system that is easier to carry when they reach their destination.
The dedicated backpack makes the concept more practical for work and daily travel, while the Power Bank and replaceable gas generator turn the vest into a broader riding system rather than a single standalone product. Riders should still treat it as serious protective equipment: correct setup, approved accessories, routine status checks and careful post-activation inspection are essential.
Pre-Order Availability
The Smart GO vest, backpack, Power Bank and gas generator are currently available to pre-order from Moto Central. Check each product listing for the latest availability and delivery information.
Moto Central Verdict
Dainese Smart GO takes a convincing approach to everyday airbag protection. The 780g vest is compact enough to encourage regular use, while Level 2 chest and back protection gives the system a serious protective purpose. The dedicated backpack is the standout companion because it adds useful storage without relying on an untested third-party bag over the airbag. Add the purpose-built Power Bank and a spare generator, and Smart GO becomes a thoughtfully connected kit for commuting, touring and daily road riding.
