Flip Front Helmets

Showing 1 - 1 of 1 product
Compare flip-front motorcycle helmets for commuting, touring and everyday road riding. A hinged chin bar gives access to the face without removing the whole helmet at a stop, while different designs lift upwards or rotate further back. Explore Shoei Neotec 3, LS2 Advant, SMK Gullwing and other options, checking fit and approved riding configurations before choosing.

Choose the opening arrangement that suits you
“Modular”, “flip-up” and “flip-front” are often used when describing this category, but the mechanisms are not all the same. Try the release control, follow the closing sequence and check that you can recognise when the chin bar is fully secured. Consider the gloves you normally wear when comparing the controls.
A lift-up front
The Shoei Neotec 3 uses a flip-up arrangement with a locking position when open. Shoei lists the model with P/J approval. Its front opens above the face, making it worth comparing with other helmets if you regularly stop to speak, refuel or take a break.
A rotating flip-back front
LS2's FF901 Advant X Carbon uses a chin bar that rotates through 180 degrees. This gives a different open configuration from a front that sits above the forehead. Compare the mechanism and balance for yourself, and follow the instructions for the position you intend to use.
Can you ride with the chin bar raised?
Check the approval label and the manufacturer's instructions. A P-only helmet must be used with its protective chin bar closed and secured. P/J identifies approval for the specified open and closed configurations. Riding open still leaves the chin without full-face coverage; dual approval does not make both positions equivalent in protection.
Do not judge approval from a product photograph or from the fact that a hinge can stay open. Read the details for the exact model and generation, including any lock that must be engaged. Make adjustments and check the mechanism before setting off.
Think through a full day's riding
For commuting, compare visor sealing, ventilation controls and how easily you can put the helmet on with your glasses. For touring, add the sun visor, anti-fog provision, removable interior and replacement-parts availability to your shortlist. The range includes SMK Gullwing V2, Spada Orion 2, AGV Streetmodular and HJC C91N, each with its own specification.
Try the helmet fully closed as well as open. Check the fit around the cheeks and crown, and that the chin bar clears your face comfortably when secured. The opening mechanism should complement a good fit rather than distract from an unsuitable shell shape.
Match the intercom to the helmet generation
Shoei identifies Sena SRL3 as the integrated communication option for Neotec 3; it is sold separately. Do not assume an older Neotec system will fit the newer helmet. For another model, check the microphone arrangement, speaker space and approved mounting method before ordering.
Compare motorcycle intercoms alongside the helmet, and use the exact model when searching for replacement visors. A similar model name is not enough to confirm either accessory.
