The Casual Shirts collection includes ordinary overshirts, flannel and work shirts alongside motorcycle riding shirts with abrasion-resistant construction and impact protection. Similar check patterns and button-front styling can hide a major difference in intended use, so certification must be checked product by product.
Everyday shirts and protective riding shirts
Casual and workwear shirts
Chambray, flannel, jersey and overshirt styles are intended for everyday use unless their own product page states otherwise. A heavy fabric or reinforced-looking seam does not by itself make a shirt motorcycle PPE.
Certified motorcycle shirts
Riding shirts can add tested abrasion resistance, shoulder and elbow armour, a back-protector pocket and connections that help keep the garment in position. The certification class and supplied protection differ by model.
Reading the protective specification
Oxford lists the Original Approved Ridgeback as an EN 17092-3:2020 Class AA garment with Level 2 shoulder and elbow protectors. Its back-protector pocket does not mean the back protector is supplied. Other riding shirts in this collection can use different classes, protectors and constructions, so do not transfer the Ridgeback specification to them.
Check for the garment class, protector levels and areas covered, then confirm which armour is included. Product names containing terms such as riding shirt, CE or Motoshirt are useful clues, but the complete product description and certification label are the deciding references.
Choosing by fit and season
Compare regular, relaxed and overshirt cuts using the brand's own size guide. Consider whether the shirt will be worn over a base layer and whether its lining is suitable for the expected temperature. A fleece-lined protective shirt and an unlined flannel serve different conditions.
For ordinary casual shirts, check fibre content, garment measurements and care instructions. For protective styles, also inspect cuff closure, hem connection, pocket security and how the collar sits beneath the helmet strap and jacket layers.
