Pinlock anti-fog inserts are shaped for specific helmet visors, using a moisture-absorbing inner lens and a silicone seal to help prevent condensation. Moto Central's range includes clear, yellow, smoke and light-reactive inserts across several performance levels for compatible visors from Arai, HJC, Shoei, Shark, Scorpion, Airoh, LS2, Nolan and other helmet manufacturers.
A Pinlock insert is not universal, even when several products have the same colour or performance number. Match the helmet model, helmet generation, visor reference and Pinlock DKS code before ordering. The DKS code is Pinlock's identifier for the insert shape and is often the quickest way to distinguish similar-looking lenses.
How a Pinlock insert works
Pinlock describes two parts to its anti-fog system. The insert's moisture-absorbing surface stores water molecules, while the air pocket created by the continuous seal acts as a thermal barrier between the insert and visor. Both the material and the seal matter, which is why the insert must have the correct shape and tension.
A Pinlock-prepared visor has the appropriate pins, and a MaxVision visor also has a recessed area designed to receive its matching MaxVision insert. A standard insert and a MaxVision insert should not be treated as interchangeable merely because they are listed for the same helmet brand.
Choose the exact Pinlock fitment
Start with the visor code
Look for the visor reference moulded into the visor, printed on its packaging or stated on the helmet manufacturer's product information. References such as HJ-40, CWR-F2 or VAS-V describe different visor families.
Confirm the helmet generation
Successive helmets can use different visors, and one visor may also serve several named helmet models. Match the complete model and generation rather than relying on a family name such as Neotec, RPHA or Skwal.
Use the DKS number
Pinlock uses DKS codes to distinguish custom insert shapes. If the product page, visor packaging or Pinlock lens finder gives a DKS number, make sure it agrees with the insert you are buying.
Check colour and performance last
Once fitment is confirmed, choose the anti-fog level and lens colour. A clear, smoke or light-reactive option with the wrong DKS code will not become compatible because it shares the same performance number.
Pinlock EVO and Pinlock 120
Some helmet-manufacturer and older catalogue wording uses Pinlock EVO. In simple range terms, EVO corresponds to the Pinlock 120 performance level, but the fit remains visor-specific. Pinlock's current official range lists four performance levels: 30, 70, 120 and 200. Not every level is produced for every visor.
Pinlock 30, 70, 120 and 200
Pinlock 30
Pinlock positions level 30 for city and occasional riding. It uses a smaller design and has lower moisture-absorbing capacity than the higher levels.
Pinlock 70
Level 70 is Pinlock's everyday performance option. Current visor-specific versions can use a MaxVision shape where the compatible visor provides the matching recess.
Pinlock 120 and EVO
Level 120 is intended for more demanding and changeable conditions. Current 120XLT inserts combine this anti-fog level with Pinlock's higher-light-transmission XLT material on compatible fitments.
Pinlock 200
Level 200 is Pinlock's highest current anti-fog performance level. Availability is restricted to the visors for which Pinlock produces a matching insert, so it cannot be chosen as a universal upgrade.
Clear, tinted and light-reactive inserts
Clear is the straightforward choice when maximum light transmission and broad riding-time flexibility are priorities. Yellow and smoke inserts change the view as well as providing anti-fog performance. Dark smoke reduces glare in brighter conditions, while yellow is intended to increase contrast in dull or overcast light. Their suitability can change with ambient light, so follow the lens instructions and the rules that apply where you ride.
ProtecTINT and PrecisionTone are named light-reactive technologies, not generic descriptions for every colour-changing insert. They are available only for selected fitments and should not be assumed interchangeable. Check the exact technology, DKS code, visor and helmet list on the product page.
Installing and caring for a Pinlock insert
Remove the visor from the helmet and follow the current Pinlock and helmet-manufacturer instructions. Fit the insert between the visor pins with the correct side facing the visor, then check in natural light that the silicone seal contacts the visor continuously. Remove the protective film only as directed and refit the visor correctly.
For cleaning, Pinlock recommends removing the insert, rinsing the insert and visor with mineral water and using a clean wet microfibre cloth only where required. Let both parts dry naturally before reassembly. The insert material is scratch-sensitive, so avoid household cleaners, rough cloths and wiping dry grit across the surface.
If the seal becomes loose, the pins may allow controlled tension adjustment. Remove the insert before turning the pins and use the instructions for that specific pin type. Excess tension or forcing the lens can damage the insert or visor.
Why buy Pinlock inserts from Moto Central?
With more than 170 inserts across many helmet and visor families, Moto Central lets you search by helmet maker, visor reference, DKS number, performance level and colour. That breadth is useful when two inserts look almost identical but fit different visor generations.
The Leicestershire showroom can also help identify the helmet, visor and Pinlock preparation in person. Bring the helmet and visor, or clear photographs of their model markings, when you need help establishing the correct fitment.
Customer questions
Does any Pinlock insert fit any prepared visor?
No. The pins are only part of the system. The insert shape, DKS code and visor design must all match.
Is Pinlock EVO the same as Pinlock 120?
In simple performance terms, yes. EVO is wording used on some fitments for the level now described as Pinlock 120. Compatibility still depends on the exact visor and DKS code.
Can I use a dark-smoke insert at night?
Do not assume so. Tinted inserts reduce light. Follow the product instructions and legal requirements, and use a suitable clear option when conditions demand it.
Why is the silicone seal not touching the visor?
The insert may be wrong for the visor, installed incorrectly or need careful pin adjustment. Remove it and check the DKS match and official instructions before changing the tension.
