Roots in Adventure and Necessity
The story begins in 1994, when Jürgen Swora built a tail tank for his Africa Twin for a tour through North Africa. That creative solution caught attention, and it planted the seed for something more. A few years later, in 1999, Jürgen teamed up with Jörg Diehl and Kai Jockel and founded SW‑Motech in an old barn in Bracht, Germany. Their goal was simple: to produce premium metal motorcycle accessories.
Early Innovation and Breakthroughs
In 2000, SW‑Motech launched one of the world’s first removable carriers. The product portfolio expanded quickly from just a few parts to over twenty products made in house. The company also opened a plant in Vojkovice (Czech Republic) to scale production.
Soft Gear and Quick‑Lock Systems
Around 2003, SW‑Motech established a soft luggage division named Bags Connection. The team developed the Quick‑Lock mechanism, revolutionising how tank bags attach and detach. This feature became a signature across their product range.
Growth and Mergers
In the mid‑2000s, SW‑Motech acquired a headquarters in Rauschenberg and consolidated operations with Bags Connection. This led to the merger of both companies in 2014, forming today’s unified SW‑Motech. The brand also introduced aluminum cases, retro luggage lines, and even a seat customisation workshop.
Expansion and Global Reach
SW‑Motech’s accessories now go beyond luggage: crash bars, centerstands, navigation mounts, ergonomic gear and more. The brand supplies riders in over 65 countries. In recent years, they opened new branches, including a U.S. headquarters in Oregon.
