From Humble Beginnings (2001)
Nexx was founded in 2001 by Helder Loureiro in the small Portuguese town of Amoreira da Gândara. With just ambition and a vision for better head protection, he built a brand rooted in local manufacturing and hands-on expertise. Nexx takes pride in being one of the few remaining European helmet-makers that still develops and produces everything in-house, ensuring high standards and thoughtful design.
Pioneering Portuguese Helmet Craft
One of Nexx’s early breakthroughs came in 2002 when they became the first Portuguese company to produce helmets using composite fibre a step that pushed them into the spotlight. In 2004, they launched the X60 Vintage, combining stitched leather and retro aesthetics a helmet that quickly became a design favourite for its nostalgic style and craftsmanship.
Growing Influence and Technical Milestones
By 2006, Nexx surprised the industry once more by launching a jeans-covered helmet, showing its willingness to challenge norms. Their lineup expanded with modular designs like the X30, and in 2007 they introduced a women's-specific line tailored by a female-led design team. Partnerships with premium names followed, including collaborations with fashion and luxury brands that helped broaden Nexx’s appeal.
Resilience Amid Setbacks
In 2018, Nexx faced a major test when a fire struck part of its factory. Despite the damage, production resumed swiftly, and that same year the company launched several new models demonstrating its ability to bounce back while staying true to innovation and resilience.
Quality Meets Craftsmanship
Every Nexx helmet undergoes rigorous quality control over 50 inspection steps from shell sculpting to final assembly ensuring that product looks as good as it protects. Their staff includes artisans skilled in everything from leatherwork to aerodynamic testing. The “Helmet for Life” philosophy underscores their commitment to lasting durability.
