The Sena 5S-10 is a single-pack Bluetooth motorcycle helmet intercom for a rider who wants straightforward communication with one passenger or riding companion. It combines a glove-friendly Jog Dial and LCD screen with 40 mm HD speakers, phone and GPS connectivity, stereo music and a two-way HD intercom range of up to 700 metres in open terrain.

This is a Bluetooth intercom rather than a Mesh Intercom system. One complete headset is supplied. A second compatible headset is required for rider-to-rider or rider-to-passenger conversation.

5S-10 model guidance

Part number 5S-10 identifies the current single-pack version. Sena’s model-change information states that voice-command control was removed from the 5S-10, so operation is through the Jog Dial, phone button and compatible app functions. Earlier 5S documentation and videos may show voice-command features from previous versions.

The 5S-10 does not include Mesh Intercom. Riders who need larger group communication should choose a Sena model specifically equipped with Mesh Intercom.

Helmet installation and microphone choice

The clamp unit is intended to fit between a helmet’s shell and interior padding. Where the helmet cannot accept the clamp, the supplied adhesive mounting plate provides an alternative. Maximum adhesion is achieved after 24 hours, according to Sena’s installation guide.

The wired microphone is normally suited to a full-face helmet, while the boom microphone is intended for helmet layouts that need the microphone to reach the rider’s mouth. Check that the speakers sit in the helmet’s ear recesses without creating pressure points and that all cables remain clear of the retention system.

Questions and answers

Can the Sena 5S-10 connect three or four riders in one conversation?

No. Sena’s current specification lists two-way intercom for up to two riders, meaning the wearer and one other compatible headset.

Does the 5S-10 support Mesh Intercom?

No. It uses Bluetooth intercom. Mesh-equipped Sena systems are separate products.

Does this 5S-10 have voice-command control?

No. Sena’s device-change notice specifically identifies voice commands as removed from the 5S-10 and 5S-10D versions.
